scandal in Boston said on Thursday that Cardinal Bernard Law's death was 'a real downer'.\u003cbr/\u003e              Walter Robinson, who led the Boston Globe's Spotlight Team that uncovered efforts to hide the abuse committed by hundreds of Roman Catholic priests, told The Associated Press that Law made a fatal misjudgement on the welfare of children.\u003cbr/\u003e              Law left Boston and took up a job at the Vatican less than two years after he was forced to resign as head of the church in Boston, a region that was considered the most Catholic in the United States.\u003cbr/\u003e              Robinson said that Law's fall from grace makes him the most tragic figure in Boston's 400-year history.\u003cbr/\u003e              He was speaking as Pope Francis prayed on Thursday for a merciful final judgement for Cardinal Law, presiding over the funeral rites for a man who epitomised the Catholic Church's failure to protect children from paedophile priests and its arrogance in
