A movement called mindful drinking is on the rise, with events, bars and a host of booze-free tipples being marketed to those...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN:\u003cbr/\u003e              The number of British adults who consume alcohol is at its lowest since 2005.\u003cbr/\u003e              A movement called mindful drinking is on the rise, with events, bars and a host of booze-free tipples being marketed to those looking for balance in their drinking habits.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              Nirvana Brewery uses the hops used by any other craft beer maker to producer its pale ale, lager, stout and IPA.\u003cbr/\u003e              But despite its brewer being an old hand in the alcohol beverage industry, he stops short of ever making any alcohol in the brewing process. He uses a very similar process to making normal beer, but employs tricks such as using a less fermentable recipe.\u003cbr/\u003e              Nirvana bills itself as the world's first low and no alcohol brewery - its all natural, non-alcoholic beers never have more than 0.5 percent alcohol in them.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We're not telling people not to drink beer. We are another option for those of you who (don't drink alcohol) for health reasons, for religious reasons, lifestyle reasons, or simply be it designated drivers,\" says Steve Dass, the co-founder and creative director of Nirvana Brewery.\u003cbr/\u003e              Dass wants to bring the non-alcoholic beer market away from past notions of such drinks being poor tasting and badly marketed.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"What people want from non-alcoholic beer, if we can achieve it, and we're trying very hard, is what the craft brewers are doing,\" Dass says.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Our beers, at the moment, our Karma (beer), is packed with citra hops and citra hops is great, and this is what a lot of the craft brewers are very successful with. Our Sutra (beer), we've got cascade and chinook (both types of hops) which gives you a bit of pine, a bit of grapefruit (flavours).\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's just something a little bit different. And also our beers are very low calorie - like 70 calories, which is great.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Nirvana has been selling out since May when it started brewing - initially 7,000 bottles a month, now 14,000. Dass wants to double that current capacity next year.\u003cbr/\u003e              Dass comes from a career in the beer industry and was inspired by not being able to find good tasting non-alcoholic beer to drink. So he's not surprised that his beers have found a market\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's a very, very big community now,\" he says. \"This sector of the industry is something to really be taken seriously.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The numbers back him up. Those preferring to cut down or stop drinking alcohol - also known as 'mindful drinking' - is a growing trend. \u003cbr/\u003e              The UK's Office for National Statistics now says that 21 percent of adults say they don't drink alcohol at all and that the number of British adults who consume alcohol is at its lowest since 2005.\u003cbr/\u003e              In the UK, sales of low and non-alcoholic beer grew by 20.5 per cent over the last 12 months to July 2017, according to market researchers Nielsen.\u003cbr/\u003e              And the popularity of mindful drinking extends to bars and events.\u003cbr/\u003e              Club Soda is a mindful drinking movement with an online community of more than 10,000 members.\u003cbr/\u003e              It holds nights in alcohol-free gastro bars, in trendy areas of London such as Notting Hill and Shoreditch, and hosts festivals.\u003cbr/\u003e              At its Christmas festival, one of Club Soda's members, Belinda Fullelova, explains why she became a mindful drinker: \"Health reasons, obviously, and also for me I found that alcohol was having quite an emotional impact. People often talk about the beer fear the morning after when they have a hangover and stuff like that. For me it was just bringing a lot of anxiety and depression my way. And once I identified that there was a link there I thought, '(Let's) see what life is like without it'.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Teetotaler Carwyn Tywyn, says he gave up drinking when he lost his job and thought that drinking alcohol wouldn't be of any benefit in such conditions.\u003cbr/\u003e              But he has since maintained avoiding alcohol for additional reasons.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Perhaps as we're getting older we're getting, I'd say my peer group is acting a little more responsibility in terms of alcohol consumption. We're married, got children, got to think of that,\" Tywun says.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"So I think that naturally has, or should have, an impact, and economically. It's not often that I go into a pub these days but (I'm) noticing the price of beer now is absolutely incredible (expensive).\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Club Soda's founder Laura Willoughby says the rise of mindful drinking has been rapid over the last two years and that it seems to be growing further.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I know that one in five people are looking to change their drinking habits. And so suddenly there has been this big wave of drinks that have come on to the market,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003e              Producers of 25 non-alcoholic beer, wine and craft sodas, tonics and soft drinks are at Club Soda's Christmas festival. Willoughby says they are non-alcoholic drinks made for adults rather than just sweet, fizzy drinks more suited to children.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"A fifth of people are looking to drink less this Christmas,\" Willoughby says.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"They are looking to stock up on more alcohol-free drinks. We weren't planning to do a Christmas festival at all but we did have one (a festival) in the summer and literally we have been inundated with emails from people saying, 'Could you do it again so we can stock up for Christmas, we can stock up for New Year - I can get something that feels like a treat, something nice to enjoy over Christmas'.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Research by Censuswide UK, for soft drinks giant Britvic, reveals that, compared to the rest of the year, 45 percent of consumers are set to buy more soft drinks this Christmas, with 21 percent planning to drink less alcohol.\u003cbr/\u003e              Editor of the pub trade publication the Morning Advertiser, Ed Bedington, says that means the market must change.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"What's to tempt them (non-alcohol drinkers) out if we aren't meeting their needs? So there needs to be a much greater focus on this both from the manufacturers but also from the outlets that provide those drinks.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              He says a sign that this is happening is big alcohol producers such as Budweiser and Heineken trying to take a share of the non-alcohol beer market by bringing out their own versions.\u003cbr/\u003e              Heineken has its own stall at the Club Soda Christmas festival, where there are also workshops on 'dating sober', motivational stories and drinks mixing sessions, to give yet more encouragement to people thinking of more balance in their drinking habits.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              London, UK - 27 November 2017\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
