In Los Angeles there's a huge selection of...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN: \u003cbr/\u003e              Californians are focussing on getting their bodies 'party ready' as they prepare for the holiday celebrations, and top of the list is a good detox session.\u003cbr/\u003e              In Los Angeles there's a huge selection of so-called detox methods, from sweating in cedar barrels, to being wrapped in foil with volcanic ash and China clay, to infrared sauna beds and zero-gravity chairs.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              Here in LA, detoxing devotees believe they can release built up toxins and lose weight - a must as the party season gets into full swing. \u003cbr/\u003e              External toxins from the environment, smoke, pesticides, hormones, colourings, preservatives, chemicals in processed foods and stress can create toxins in the body and many people feel better getting a full body cleanse.\u003cbr/\u003e              Dr. Lisa Masterson, an obstetrician and gynecologist. M.D., F.A.C.O.G. in Santa Monica, uses alternative medicine as an adjunct to science based medicine.\u003cbr/\u003e              She is considered a pioneer in women's healthcare. She is known for hosting the Emmy nominated show The Doctors and has an  iTunes pod-cast called Health In Heels.\u003cbr/\u003e              Masterton says: \"I think what people are trying to do is to achieve a better sense of health and well being, derive some energy from it, maybe even a little fountain of youth, a little anti-aging as well, so people are thinking if they change their lifestyle and some of this thinking is actually true and correct, it's what we put in ourselves. It's preventative medicine, as opposed to disease focused medicine, and that's why I think western type docs, like myself, will sometimes not embrace that because we're just taught about disease prevention, treating diseases.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              SaunaBar in Los Angeles, California, is a holistic detox, weight loss, and stress-relief boutique.\u003cbr/\u003e              It provides state-of-the-art equipment that blends Eastern and Western ideas on wellbeing and specialises in infrared sauna detox, anti-aging, relaxation therapy, and natural weight loss programs.\u003cbr/\u003e              One of the most popular treatments is Infrared Sauna Therapy, with the futuristic SaunaPod, which the company says cleanses toxin build up with 40 minute sweat out sessions costing $70.00.\u003cbr/\u003e              Clients are placed on 440 activated jade crystals.\u003cbr/\u003e              They breathe fresh air with their heads outside this type of sauna.\u003cbr/\u003e              Jourdan Rystrom, the SaunaBar's Transformation Coach claims this SaunaPod  is the only pod to offer two types of infrared that revitalize transformation on a mental and physical cellular level.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"How it works is there is near infrared and there's far infrared, both infrareds are equally important but adding the near creates a whole new aspect for deeper detox. The near infrared lights, which is the red light therapy, penetrates deep through the skin, which then activities the bodies natural healing mechanisms for a deep inner detox on a cellular level.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Rystrom says the benefits are detoxing and cleansing of the lymph system, promototion of mercury detoxification, removal of excess fluids from the body, improvement overall immune function, and assistance with weight loss.\u003cbr/\u003e              Rystrom claims it's possible to burn up to 600 calories in 40 minutes, reduce the appearance cellulite, improve skin and reduce stress and fatigue.\u003cbr/\u003e              Clinical evidence isn't available to back this up, but orthopaedic physiotherapist Vivian Eisenstadt is very keen on the SaunaPod. \u003cbr/\u003e              She's been using it since being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Lyme Disease.\u003cbr/\u003e              She says: \"Infrared saunas are a great device to help me circulation be optimal and help my lymph system move the toxins out of my body and make my body a healing machine.\" \u003cbr/\u003e              There's also the magnesphere  - a magnetic resonance therapy device that is claimed to help reduce pain, stiffness, inflammation, and aid with sleep and energy issues by producing a gentle and continually flowing, low level magnetic field.\u003cbr/\u003e              Saunabar says the zero-gravity chair provides a whole body immersion into a uniform electromagnetic field (EMF) for specific ailments. A single person steam session lasting 10-15 minutes is said to warm up the body, increasing circulation and relaxing the muscles. A session costs $85.00.\u003cbr/\u003e              The spa claims the benefits are detoxing, toning, weight loss, a rejuvenated body, cellulite removal, increased metabolism, stress reduction and relaxation.\u003cbr/\u003e              The Active Slim IR treatment combines the benefits of air pressure lymphatic drainage massage and infrared heating for the body. \u003cbr/\u003e              The spa claims the benefits are weight loss, a firmer body, improved skin, vitality and relaxation.\u003cbr/\u003e              The Peninsula Spa Beverly Hills offers a luxurious detox called \"Detoxifying Body Wrap.\" It lasts for ninety minutes and costs $300 US.\u003cbr/\u003e              It is designed to rid the body of excess stagnant fluids and leave the body feeling less fatigued and bloated. \u003cbr/\u003e              Katie Morena, Director of the Peninsula Spa Beverly Hills says the detoxifying Body Wrap's benefits continue working after you've left the spa.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It does include and start with the geranium body scrub, rich in anti-oxidants, followed by a volcanic clay, two of the most powerful detoxifiers, the volcanic clay and the China ash.
