On the West...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eBLACK FRIDAY CROWDS AND SHOPPERS IN THE HEAT OF LA\u003cbr/\u003e              Retailers worked hard to attract shoppers to stores on Black Friday, offering in-person deals meant to counter the ease of shopping on Amazon.\u003cbr/\u003e              On the West Coast, the good weather certainly helped, with temperatures of around 75 degrees Fahrenheit in Los Angeles (24 derees Celsius) attracting shoppers to stroll in the sunshine, and certainly making queueing outside stores for bargains more pleasant.   \u003cbr/\u003e              At one outdoor shopping mall, the Citadel Outlet in Los Angeles, Marketing Director Cynthia Schmitt reported increased footfall on 2016:\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We've been talking to our tenants, our retailers, all day and they've been seeing at least 20 percent, some of the stores have been seeing a 50 percent increase from last year, so conservatively we've been looking at 100 thousand (shoppers) today but it could be even more than that,\" she estimated.\u003cbr/\u003e              Retailers across the US offered \"doorbuster\" deals to attract customers away from their laptops and computers and into the malls. \u003cbr/\u003e              However, with some there was no need - one couple shopping at Columbia shoe store at Citadel said they preferred shopping in person to online on Black Friday as it created a holiday atmosphere:\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Sometimes I just don't need anything but I just want to feel the crowd and feel the ambience of Black Friday,\" confessed Yvonne Meng, a 33 year old customer  who's lived in Los Angeles for a decade. \u003cbr/\u003e              Still, Black Friday isn't what it used to be. It has morphed from a single day when people got up early to score doorbusters into a whole month of deals. That has thinned out the crowds. And brick-and-mortar stores face plenty of challenges.\u003cbr/\u003e              With the jobless rate at a 17-year-low of 4.1 percent and consumer confidence stronger than a year ago, analysts project healthy sales increases for November and December. The National Retail Federation trade group expects sales for that period to at least match last year's rise of 3.6 percent and estimates online spending and other non-store sales will rise 11 to 15 percent.\u003cbr/\u003e              But analysts at Bain say Amazon is expected to take half of the holiday season's sales growth.\u003cbr/\u003e              Amazon said Friday that Thanksgiving continued to be one of its busiest shopping days, with orders through its app up over 50 percent from a year ago. Overall, online sales on Black Friday rose 18. 4 percent to $640 million, from a year ago, as of Friday morning, says Adobe Analytics. Thanksgiving generated a total of $2.87 billion in online spending, up 18.3 percent from a year ago, the data firm said.\u003cbr/\u003e              About 69 percent of Americans, or 164 million people, intend to shop at some point during the five-day period from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, according to a survey released by the NRF.
