But if they do, he's ready for a fight.\u003cbr/\u003e              John spoke briefly about it on the black carpet for the Elton John AIDS Foundation's 25th anniversary gala Tuesday night (7 OCTOBER) in New York.\u003cbr/\u003e              The star-studded affair included Billy Joel, Alec Baldwin, Sting, Neil Patrick Harris, and many other celebrities.\u003cbr/\u003e              John continues his global humanitarian efforts to help raise money for innovative HIV/AIDS prevention programs, campaigns to end stigma and provide treatment, care and support services for people living with the disease. \u003cbr/\u003e              Standing with husband, David Furnish, John recounted the foundation's success on the arrivals line.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's weird. I'm not the sort of person that reminisces and looks back, but it is quite an amazing achievement. It's flown by. We've come an awful long way from where we first started with two people at a kitchen table in Atlanta,\" John said. \u003cbr/\u003e              As for discussion about marriage equality, LBGTQ protections and discrimination for religious reasons, John feels optimistic. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I have to remain positive. If I have to go to the Senate and the Congress and the president I will go. But at the time being I'm remaining positive. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. Yes, these are difficult times, but I'm an optimist,\" John said.\u003cbr/\u003e              Andrew Rannells feels the battles won for the LBGTQ community over the last couple of years will shift to now maintaining those rights.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Incredible strides, obviously, which is very exciting. But I think it's something we have to still be vigilant about, as many people do in this political climate, that nothing gets taken away, particularly things that have been recently given. So I think everybody just needs to be aware and pay attention,\" Rannells said.\u003cbr/\u003e              Glenn Close sees the polling booth as the place to fight against discrimination.  \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think we have to demand our rights. I think we have to vote out the people who won't give us our rights. That's where we're lucky to be in this country where we have a democracy. Democracy is a very delicate proposition, but I think we all have to step up, and do our part, and really, really know who we're voting for,\" Close said.\u003cbr/\u003e              Meanwhile, Diane Lane thinks that the pendulum will swing toward the most basic human emotion. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think there are going to continue to be grass roots movement for human reality of love being the most important thing,\" Lane said.\u003cbr/\u003e              Former professional tennis player and activist Billie Jean King is a board member for the Elton John Foundation. She's proud of the work that the foundation has achieved over the past 25 years. Whether it's the AIDS epidemic or LBGTQ rights, she feels the fight is never over. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"There's always that pendulum that goes back and forth. That's why every generation has to fight for freedom and equality, no matter if it's LBGTQ-plus or if it's any other area,\" King said.\u003cbr/\u003e              Fashion designer Donna Karan called handling the political rhetoric, \"very difficult.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              But when she was asked if she regretted defending Harvey Weinstein several weeks ago, Karan walked away, saying \"sorry\" as she moved down carpet.\u003cbr/\u003e              After Weinstein's predatory behavior was revealed in a New York Times article last month, Karan came to his defense, alluding that some woman were \"asking for it.\" She has since apologized. \u003cbr/\u003e              Alec Baldwin walked the carpet with wife, Hilaria, who just announced she's pregnant with the couple's fourth child.\u003cbr/\u003e              Meanwhile, Billy Joel and wife just welcomed their second child last month.\u003cbr/\u003e              The 68-year old legend loves the idea of having more time to spend at home.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's a lot of fun. I have a lot of time to spend with them too. I'm not working very much anymore. Doing the (Madison Square) Garden once a month, a couple of stadiums in the summer time, and now I've got plenty of time. So I'm gonna spend the most time I can with them,\" Joel said.\u003cbr/\u003e              John's efforts to raise awareness and fight against AIDS were lauded by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, New York Gov.
