One of the biggest producers of rice, milk, and pulses, India is...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN:\u003cbr/\u003e              India is seeking a larger slice of the world food market by showcasing its best products at the World Food India fair in New Delhi. \u003cbr/\u003e              One of the biggest producers of rice, milk, and pulses, India is trying to woo billions of dollars of foreign investment in the food processing sector. \u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              More than 20 countries and almost all of India's states have come together to showcase advancements in the Indian food production and food processing industries.\u003cbr/\u003e              The three-day World Food India event, at the Iconic India Gate War Memorial, has been organized by the Indian Ministry of Food Processing Industries.\u003cbr/\u003e              It wants to transform the food economy and close the technology gap between production and processing of food. \u003cbr/\u003e              Processed food products from around the world were on display at the exhibition spread over an area of 40,000 square metres. \u003cbr/\u003e              At the Kellogg's stall, people lined up to get a taste of the Kellogg's Masala Oats – a spicy Indian twist to the western breakfast. \u003cbr/\u003e              Kellogg's patented Cornflakes and Chocos were tossed with cucumbers and peppers to create a healthier alternative to Indian 'bhel puri' – generally made with puffed rice and gram flour. \u003cbr/\u003e              According to the Indian Brand Equity Foundation and Worldatlas, India is both the sixth largest market for food and groceries in the world, and also the second largest producer of food and food products.    \u003cbr/\u003e              However, it is currently ranked 12 in the list of top food exporting countries. This is a gap the Government of India is trying to fill with the $10 billion in foreign investment expected over the next three years. \u003cbr/\u003e              France-based dairy products corporation Lactalis has recently expanded in India by acquiring Indian dairy companies like Anik, and is now using Indian milk to make products for their international brands like President Butter.  \u003cbr/\u003e              \"When the technology comes for processing, you know the conversion, extending the shelf life. I think that will lead (a) lot of money generation for the farmers, the producers, for the people who are producing those and for the consumer also new products, new packaging, better products, safe products will be available,\" says Rahul Kumar, managing director of Lactalis India.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think that would be having a lot of…you know, very larger impact on the business of food products in India.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Kumar says that Lactalis is currently investing more than $12 million in India each year. \u003cbr/\u003e              India jumped 30 notches in the recently released World Bank Ease of Doing Business rankings for 2018, and is currently ranked 100 in the world. \u003cbr/\u003e              Food processing companies, like France-based Femia, are also eyeing the Indian market and believe the Indian government is indeed making it easier to do business in India. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"India is more than a country, it's a continent. So, there is a huge potential of food processing development here in India,\" says Gilbert Le Foll, marketing and sales manager at Femia. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"A lot of fruits and vegetables are growing here in India. So, for our company like Femia, completely involved in that field, we can't miss this market, now and in the future.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Food India event on Friday and spoke at length about the opportunities in the Indian food processing industry and touted the health benefits of Indian ingredients. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"The combination of traditional Indian food, with modern technology, processing and packaging, can help the world rediscover the health benefits, and refreshing taste of Indian food ingredients such as turmeric, ginger, and tulsi, to name just a few,\" says Modi. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"The perfect blend of hygienic, nutritious and tasty processed food, with the added benefits of preventive healthcare, can be produced economically, here in India.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              India is still the world's largest producer, consumer, and exporter of spices like pepper, red chillies, turmeric, and cardamom, according to the Indian government. \u003cbr/\u003e              And some believe it is the spices that give Indian foods their distinguished taste. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"The reason (taste of Indian food) is because of the spices we have here,\" says exhibition visitor, Ravinder Chahal. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"We don't get them in other countries in the world.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              With more than 700 food companies participating, the World Food India event hopes to attract more than 12,000 business visitors and prospective investors from around the world. \u003cbr/\u003e              World Food India runs from 3 - 5 November in New Delhi.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              New Delhi – 3 November 2017\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
