A new mall in Beverly Hills is combining retail, fashion,...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN: \u003cbr/\u003e              Shopping centres are going upmarket in Los Angeles with more VIP facilities being introduced in a bid to encourage people to spend more money. \u003cbr/\u003e              A new mall in Beverly Hills is combining retail, fashion, cuisine, entertainment and fitness to be a model of a 21st Century marketplace that's also attracting the movie world. \u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              A calm, green oasis in the middle of a bustling city - this is how shopping is done in southern California. \u003cbr/\u003e              There's no low ceilings or harsh fluorescent lighting here at Westfield Century City, instead shoppers get to enjoy the Californian sunshine. \u003cbr/\u003e              This new Beverly Hills mall is going upscale and focussing on glamour, luxury and relaxation. \u003cbr/\u003e              Outdoor areas feature planter boxes with trees and manicured gardens for visitors to spend time in between shopping. \u003cbr/\u003e              The company behind the centre is banking on the design to become the go-to community marketplace for the 21st century.\u003cbr/\u003e              Entertainment and retail spaces are mixed together to create a 1.3 million square foot destination with over 200 shops and restaurants. \u003cbr/\u003e              Huge video screens and a stage have been added to the outdoor plaza to host concerts, film premieres and fashion shows. \u003cbr/\u003e              Scott Sanders, creative head of global entertainment for Westfield, says the space can be used for a variety of functions. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"The Atrium was designed to be an outdoor amphitheatre so it can host concert performances. It's got a big stage. It also can have a thrust stage come out for fashion events or for runway kind of activities and film premieres. We can do things from the air, from above, there are fly points in the building, so it's really completely well designed with a green room, a control room. It's really set up to be a full live stage and then the campus of all of the mall can be any number of other stages that can be activated,\" says Sanders.\u003cbr/\u003e              Westfield Century City is steeped in Hollywood history. The land was once to the 20th Century-Fox studio backlots where iconic movies were made.\u003cbr/\u003e              The studio still sits behind the mall but in a smaller capacity than years ago.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Century City was a backlot for Fox, where we are standing right now, used to be part of the backlot of Fox and when Cleopatra didn't work out so well as a movie in 1964, Fox sold the land and the land that we are standing on now used to be part of the movie business so there's a lot of entertainment ghosts in this space. We're going to be doing lots of fun things with the film community. We are here in Los Angeles. We are here in Beverly Hills. It's going to be fun to play,\" says Sanders.\u003cbr/\u003e              Heather Vandenberghe, Chief Marketing Officer for Westfield USA says they wanted to create an outdoor oasis. There's even a lounge to wait for your car share ride and a concierge service. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"Century City offers the best of the Southern California lifestyle and everything a VIP shopper might want, whether it's concierge services, personal shopping or styling, reserved parking, click and collect for your services, but maybe you want to come to a concert and enjoy one of our special concert venues or you're taking an Uber and you get to sit in the Uber Lounge to wait for your car and some experiences there, we're really looking at what is the ultimate California experience,\" says Vandenberghe.\u003cbr/\u003e              Because the centre is close to film and TV studios, the stores have signed up to a new partnership with the Costume Designers Guild to provide a concierge service to costume designers and wardrobe departments. \u003cbr/\u003e              Stylists spend huge amounts of money on fashion when buying TV or film wardrobes or for photo shoots for magazine and corporate ad campaigns.\u003cbr/\u003e              It's a move that will make life easier for stylists, according to Salvador Perez, President of the Costume Designers Guild and Sarah Cowperthwaite, Executive Producer of the Costume Designers Guild Awards.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The costume designer's job is to provide all the costumes for a film whether it's the lead actor or the people in the background, everybody who gets dressed on camera is us and we need to have a variety of clothes to do that so you can either go to one store or you can come to mall that has three major department stores, every boutique available and you can get so much shopping in a centralized place so that's great but then to have the Studio Service angle where they are taking care of us and making it easier to do it, it's really just icing on the cake for us,\" says Perez.\u003cbr/\u003e              Cowperthwaite adds: \"This partnership for the Costume Designers Guild Awards is really important for the costume design community. This location is a great place. It's close to several of the studios. It allows the costume designers to one stop shop for their characters. They can do clothing, they can do accessories, everything from sunglasses, to handbags, to shoes. They're creating an entire look. A lot of what costume designer's job is - is to create a wardrobe.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              There is also a focus on wellness at the center -  with a drop in UCLA Medial clinic taking appointments to two fitness centers and stores with fitness equipment.\u003cbr/\u003e              Culturally, there are partnerships several institutions including the Annenberg Center for Photography and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), which are lending art pieces for long-term display. \u003cbr/\u003e              Edward Burzminski, President and CEO of Chamber Marketing Partners, which prints a magazine for business groups, says the new mall is a step in the right direction.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"This mall truly takes the lifestyle center to a whole new level. It's a specialized upscale destination style experience that makes everything so easy for the visitor. Not only does it offer VIP and Hollywood focus like never before, It also has some cool things like seating that has hanging beds, seating with fire pits, it has a great playground for kids and it's pet friendly.
