Curators hope the two-week event will encourage greater art...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN:\u003cbr/\u003e              Performance artists are starring at the first-ever Karachi Biennale, claimed to be Pakistan's largest international contemporary art event.\u003cbr/\u003e              Curators hope the two-week event will encourage greater art awareness, perhaps even lead to the creation of dedicated modern art museums in the Pakistani city.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              Minimalist movements to the tune of Indian classical music.\u003cbr/\u003e              At the first-ever Karachi Biennale, 35-year-old Rehan Bashir is showcasing this performance work. He's one of over 150 artists taking part in the event.\u003cbr/\u003e              His work fuses meditative practices from a variety of diverse cultures.\u003cbr/\u003e              Bashir is performing among artworks by Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto.\u003cbr/\u003e              Behind him are three flags, the creations of another Italian artist, Marco Nereo Rotelli. Rotelli says his work explores the relationship between art and poetry.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"In the work that I presented in the Biennale of Karachi, are three poems,\" the artist explains. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I changed the space, changed the image of the writing … and you can see, like, another constellation. When I use poetry in art, the words change and you can live, like, a wave of the mind.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Rotelli is one of over 70 international artists whose work is on display during the two-week event.\u003cbr/\u003e              New Yorker, Michael Humann's sculpture is also featured. \u003cbr/\u003e              His work maps the route taken by various bodies of water in Pakistan, starting from the north and merging into the Indus River that falls into the Arabian Sea.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"My work is a large sculpture that is on the ground and I've recreated the Indus River, which runs from the top of Pakistan all the way through,\" explains Humann.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"And in it, I've taken words, thousands of words in Urdu, of people talking about Pakistan, people talking about the hopes and dreams for Pakistan. And also, stories, traditional stories of Pakistan as well.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The biennale's theme is 'Witness'. \u003cbr/\u003e              It's also brought about inter-disciplinary collaborations between artists working across different mediums.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think there's a really high quality, I wasn't expecting so much performance art, it's really interesting that, well, there's a lot of bodies, everywhere, doing various things, which is kind of alarming, but also interesting,\" says visitor Meg Parnell from Manchester, UK.\u003cbr/\u003e              Renowned and emerging artists, including Noorjehan Bilgrami, Meher Afroz, Sheema Kermani, Aamir Habib and Muhammad Ali Mirchi, are also part of the exhibition.\u003cbr/\u003e              Organisers hope the event will lead to greater awareness of art in Karachi, perhaps even a contemporary art museum where works can be permanently exhibited.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Inshallah (God willing), it will lead to more awareness about art in Pakistan and in Karachi,\" says chief curator Amin Gulgee.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It will also beckon to the fact that we do not have museums in Karachi and will lead to a creation of a modern art museum and a contemporary art museum, which is desperately needed for the city.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Night time is the perfect setting for Berlin-based artist Wolfgang Spahn to showcase his so-called \"truck art.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              \"When I found out the first time about truck art, it was years ago, and I was so fascinated,\" explains Spahn.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"So, when I came last year to Karachi, and made my first workshop and performance, and I saw all these trucks, the idea came up that I want to do something with that…and I want to make a truck art piece.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The Karachi Biennale (KB17) is spread across 12 venues and runs 22 October - 5 November 2017.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Karachi, Pakistan - 21 October 2017\u003cbr/\u003e              ++DAY SHOTS++\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
