The arrests came a...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eMore than 3,000 migrants were arrested in smugglers camps near the Libyan city of Sabratha on Saturday and transported to detention centres by the city's department set up to combat illegal immigration.\u003cbr/\u003e              The arrests came a day after an armed group claimed victory over Italian-backed militias paid to stem the flow of migrants to Europe from Sabratha, a major launch pad for the perilous voyage across the Mediterranean.\u003cbr/\u003e              The Anti-ISIS Operations Room (AIOR), created last year to clear Sabratha of Islamic State militants, said it and its allies had taken control of the city from the Martyr Anas al-Dabashi, better known as the al-Ammu, and Brigade 48 militias. \u003cbr/\u003e              The head of the AIOR on Saturday appealed to the international community for assistance, saying that his men had found the smugglers camps \"in a very tragic situation\", with migrant women and children in desperate need of assistance.\u003cbr/\u003e              General Omar Abdel Jalil also confirmed that the al-Ammu militia leader Ahmad al-Dabashi had fled the city after the battle and the AIOR's victory would help put a stop to the smuggling operation.\u003cbr/\u003e              Over the summer, the Al-Ammu and Brigade 48 militias struck a deal with Italy through the United Nations-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) to stop facilitating the flow of migrant boats to the country. \u003cbr/\u003e              Under the deal, the flow of migrants significantly dropped since July compared to the previous year.\u003cbr/\u003e              But the deal triggered a backlash from other local militias, who feared the empowerment of the Al-Ammu and Brigade 48 militias at their expense, and it is unclear what the impact of the militia's defeat will be.\u003cbr/\u003e              The weeks-long battle between the opposing militia killed dozens and displaced thousands of families.\u003cbr/\u003e              All factions involved in the battle are nominally under the control of the GNA, which pledged cooperation with the AIOR to secure the city.\u003cbr/\u003e              The fight has also grown more complicated with Libyan military strongman Khalifa Hifter lending his support to the forces fighting the Al-Ammu militia. \u003cbr/\u003e              Hifter heads the armed forces based in the east and backed by the eastern-based parliament that is the rival of GNA.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              Sabratha - 7 October 2017\u003cbr/\u003e              1.
