Silver sparkle is a really easy way to make a dramatic impact with kind of a streamline silhouette but some people took it really far to the extreme where they wore a really interesting shape but also had a crazy silver sparkle and that's a really high fashion look," said Wang who singled out Tracee Ellis Ross's look.
"So I think Tracee Ellis Ross wore something that is not conventionally worn on the red carpet. It was structured and not body-con and it had a lot going on. And I think historically that would've gotten her put on the worst dressed list - it kind of obscured her body. I saw on Twitter a lot of people were saying that she looked big because she was wearing it which is funny because people don't wear dresses in order to look skinny, like that shouldn't be the only reason that you wear a gown, or decide on a gown, but the dress did make her look like a superhero, you know she looked like the movie star that she is - a forward thinking, progressive, open-minded person and that's what the Chanel haute couture dress really communicated and when she moved the feathers moved and the sequins shone and it was a dress made for action and a dress not made for just standing there and that's the kind of person she is. I thought it was a beautiful metaphor for who she is as an actress and what she believes," commented Wang, a senior features writer for Refinery29, an online lifestyle portal.
Wang also commended Evan Rachel Wood for her choice to wear a pantsuit rather than a dress and while she gave Reese Witherspoon points for going with a short hemlined dress instead of the typical long gown, she said the Stella McCartney dress was more a miss than a hit.
"So, Reese Witherspoon wore a Stella McCartney blazer-dress and it was short but in a petite person like her it can look really great but I do think there's something strange about the fit because most of the time samples, especially that celebrities borrow for the red carpet are tailored for someone who is very, very tall so the dress I think was re-worked for her but you could tell. She said that she's not sample size.
