The Foreign Office says Johnson will arrive in Barbados on Tuesday and make trips to the...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eBritish Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is travelling to the Caribbean to oversee British aid to islands stricken by Hurricane Irma.\u003cbr/\u003e              The Foreign Office says Johnson will arrive in Barbados on Tuesday and make trips to the heavily damaged British Virgin Islands and to Anguilla.\u003cbr/\u003e              Johnson has rebuffed charges that Britain has been slow in its response to the catastrophic storm that caused severe damage to many islands.\u003cbr/\u003e              Britain, he said, had already sent more than 700 soldiers and 50 police officers to the British Virgin Islands to help restore order there. We're putting more police into both the BVI and Anguilla, the security, the sense of confidence is rising, but we've got to keep that going, the positive forward momentum. One interesting thing is that St. Martin, which is controlled as you know by the French and the Dutch, a lot of Brits on holiday there. I've talked to the Dutch foreign minister, we're getting someone in, a consular representative in, so that there's at least a Uk face that people can talk to. Before the thing began we had RFA Mounts Bay in place, we've now got 700 troops in the area. As I say we've got more police going, more than 50 are already on the scene. Yes there have been some difficult consular cases, but the interesting thing is that actually it's those other countries, the French and the Dutch who are asking us for help and we will certainly be providing that.
