The film...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLABEOUF GREETS FANS AS TORONTO FESTIVAL SERVES UP 'BORG/MCENROE' PREMIERE\u003cbr/\u003e              The 42nd Toronto Film Festival served up \"Borg/ McEnroe\" at its opening night gala Thursday (7 September) at Roy Thomson Hall.\u003cbr/\u003e              The film depicts the 1980s tennis rivalry between tennis greats Björn Borg and John McEnroe, climaxing with the 1980 Wimbledon final that many consider one of the greatest tennis matches ever played. \u003cbr/\u003e              Shia LaBeouf takes on the role of the volatile McEnroe, while Swedish actor Sverrir Gudnason plays the more laid back Borg.\u003cbr/\u003e              Gudnason was overwhelmed by the honor of being in the festival's opener, and loved how the film harkened back to such an interesting time.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We're doing a tribute. This film is a - a salute to these guys, the first rock and rollers of tennis. I mean in those days, it was fun to watch tennis because you had a lot of characters and that gave us a lot,\" Gudnason said.\u003cbr/\u003e              Gudnason saw LaBeouf playing his adversary in the film as brilliant casting, since Lebeouf and McEnroe have much in common when out in public.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The guy was born to play him, what can I say?\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Stellan Skarsgard plays Swedish tennis star Lennart Bergelin, who went on to train Borg and lead him to 11 Grand Slam titles. \u003cbr/\u003e              While he admits to knowing little about tennis, Skarsgard understands film sets, and said there was lots of love between takes. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"The chemistry on set was great. I mean we're all friends and we all love each other. It wasn't any rivalry on the set. You can't make film that way. Then it becomes a documentary about actors,\" Skarsgard said. \u003cbr/\u003e              Scott Arthur plays Peter Blair Fleming, who was McEnroe's doubles partner. Together they won seven Grand Slams titles.\u003cbr/\u003e              McEnroe was known for his tirades on and off the court, which made him a pop culture legend. But Arthur but doesn't think that his antics would be acceptable in today's game.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think in today's modern game there's way more light on these players.  And social media, you can't away from anything. I mean can you imagine if there was Twitter back in the day when Johnny Mac and Borg was around and people could take photos whenever they wanted, you know. Now you got people with cameras on their phones and everything, so I think that you get away with a bit more. We all know they were naughty. They used to go out and have a good time and drink and there's girls, you know what I mean, but you just couldn't do that now,\" Arthur said.\u003cbr/\u003e              LaBeouf has a similar fierceness, but unlike McEnroe, has found himself in legal trouble, including several arrests. Earlier this year, he was arrested for misdemeanor assault for a scuffle during an anti-Trump rally. He was also taken in custody in Savannah, Georgia, for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction. Body camera footage from the arresting officer recorded a racially insensitive comment from LaBeouf toward the officer. He apologized and blamed his addiction issues. \u003cbr/\u003e              But like his other cast mates, Arthur agrees that when LaBeouf is working, he's a true professional. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"Shia's amazing. He is, uh – I said this to some friends. I came back and they said, 'how was filming,' and I said I'm not bullshitting, sorry for my, uh, my French, he was the best actor I've worked with. So real, truthful, honest, and he just had this energy you were addicted to work with. So it's a pleasure. He's a really brilliant actor to work with.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Director Janus Metz agrees that LaBeouf's on-screen talent and fiery temperment make for a perfect casting choice. \u003cbr/\u003e              \"I always thought of him as the perfect John McEnroe. There's so many similarities between the two.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              This year, tennis is getting its most serious film treatment yet in movies.
