They are...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEAD IN:\u003cbr/\u003e              United Launch Alliance in the United States is building the rockets that will take Americans back to space from U.S. soil for the first time since the retirement of the space shuttle in 2011.\u003cbr/\u003e              They are hoping they can also inspire the next generation of astronauts.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              As NASA develops the Space Launch System and the Orion spacecraft for missions to deep space, including to Mars, private companies are preparing to send people to low Earth orbit.\u003cbr/\u003e              United Launch Alliance is one such company.\u003cbr/\u003e              Anton Kolomiets, a mechanical engineer at United Launch Alliance, says they are hard at work on a variety of projects.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Within this rocket factory, we have 23, 24 missions in work at any given point in the day. Building those 23, 24 missions are about just over 750 people within the United Launch Alliance rocket factory. On this particular part of the factory in the Delta cryogenic second stage we only have 13 hands-on people that build this. And, really, everything we do on all the rockets — whether it's Atlas V or Delta IV — is very much a manual process. It's very much a labour of love for the people that are doing it,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              Kolomiets says they have already supplied many space missions.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Over the last 10 years, United Launch Alliance has assembled and launched rockets for more than 115 missions ranging from the Mars Science Laboratory, which is the Curiosity Rover, Juno Mission, they have all started life in the factory, moved on to the launch site and gotten launched by United Launch Alliance,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              Boeing is building the CST-100 Starliner, a spacecraft that will send astronauts to the International Space Station.\u003cbr/\u003e              Atlas V, one of the rockets manufactured at United Launch Alliance's factory in Decatur, will launch the Starliner.\u003cbr/\u003e              Gary Wentz, United Launch Alliance's  human and commercial systems vice president, says many of the missions are cargo missions.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The Atlas programme itself started back in the days of (astronaut) John Glenn, flying John in the capsules to orbit. It evolved and flew to pretty much every planet in the solar system. Now, we're going back to delivering cargo to space station. We've had three successful flights partnering to fly cargo to resupply the International Space Station and we're about to return astronauts on board an Atlas V from the cape (Cape Canaveral) to support space station operations.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Wentz says it is an exciting time in rocket development.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The next generation of engineers and scientists are starting to get engaged and don't often have the opportunity to work the development of an integrated system to carry humans to space. This is that opportunity for that generation to engage and start to develop the hardware and systems to carry our astronauts to and from space,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e              Several flight tests, including a crewed mission, are planned for 2018.\u003cbr/\u003e              United Launch Alliance Production Integration Specialist Shannon Coggin says she hopes people will become inspired by space again.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"This is really history in the making. This is really the Apollo era for the next generation. This is inspiring this next generation to fall in love with space again, to really test their boundaries and us paving their way for the future of commercial space exploration.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              Coggin says it is a great time to be in space exploration.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's really exciting to be a part of this new generation, this forefront of commercial crew program. We have this enormous responsibility here in the factory to ensure that everything that we do is focused around mission success.
