Companies are launching speakers, apps, thermostats, and headphones that work with Amazon's Alexa or...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN \u003cbr/\u003e              Gadgets with voice activation and with voice assistants are the hot trend at this year's IFA. \u003cbr/\u003e              Companies are launching speakers, apps, thermostats, and headphones that work with Amazon's Alexa or Google's Assistant.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE\u003cbr/\u003e              This is the uGrow app from Dutch technology company Philips.\u003cbr/\u003e              It allows parents to track their babies; when it drinks, when they changed nappies, when they cry and sleep.\u003cbr/\u003e              It used to be that parents had to get out their smartphones to manually enter the data.\u003cbr/\u003e              But the app is now enabled with Amazon's Alexa voice controlled assistant, meaning that parents can simply ask Alexa to enter the data.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"So, moms today who are very busy and struggle with really taking care of that newborn baby, trying to breastfeed, trying to warm the milk,\"\u003cbr/\u003e              says Liat Ben Zur, head of connected devices Philips\u003cbr/\u003e              \"They don't always have time to take out the phone and enter 'I started breastfeeding, the baby stopped crying right now'. So to be able to be just hands-free and say 'Hi Alexa, please tell the uGrow the the baby has started breastfeeding on my left side'.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It is a very simple and intuitive thing that allows you to continuously track and monitor the things that matter to you and your baby. Without using your hands.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              The app from Philips is following a current trend of companies connecting their gadgets and apps to third party voice assistants like Amazon's Alexa, Google's Assistant or Windows' Cortana.\u003cbr/\u003e              Another company that has announced Alexa capabilities at IFA is Tado, the maker of smart thermostats.\u003cbr/\u003e              Their thermostats have always been \"smart,\" meaning they could be controlled remotely by an app.\u003cbr/\u003e              But now with Alexa integration, users only have to speak to the Amazon Echo, to ask Alexa to in turn ask the Tado thermostat to change the temperature.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"So it is very easy,\" says Toon Bouten, CEO or Tado.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"You don't need to go to the machine or to the thermostat yourself. It just sets itself by Amazon Alexa.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              According to a report by eMarketers, a market research company, 35 million people in the US will use a voice-activated assistant device, such as the Amazon Echo or Google Home, in 2017.\u003cbr/\u003e              That is an increase by 129 percent from last year.\u003cbr/\u003e              Amazon Echo has 70 percent of the market share while Google Home trails with 24 percent.\u003cbr/\u003e              German headphones company Bragi has enabled Alexa in its latest smart, bluetooth headphones.\u003cbr/\u003e              When you press the Bragi Dash headphones you activate Alexa. Then you can ask for it to play music, to book a taxi or anything else Alexa is capable of.\u003cbr/\u003e              Want to listen to the news headlines when you walk to work in the morning? Just ask the headphones.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"I think it is more natural. It is faster, it is more convenient. It might not be discreet and the right thing for every occasion but it is definitely a big new interface that will further grow,\" says  Darko Dragicevic, Vice President of Bragi.\u003cbr/\u003e              A number of companies, such as Panasonic and Lenovo, have brought out speakers connected to Alexa or Google Assistant.\u003cbr/\u003e              Samsung owned Harman has brought out three speakers, one connected to Windows Cortana, one to Google Assistant and one to Alexa.\u003cbr/\u003e              The idea is to improve the hardware and the sound quality compares to the native devices, such as Amazons Echo.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"This has a 360, immersive sound, with AKJ professional quality microphones built into it. So, far-field multiple directions. Superb even in noisy environments. It will hear the commands and it will respond to you,\" says Dinesh Paliwal, CEO of Harman industries.\u003cbr/\u003e              Amazon's Alexa was released in 2014, Apples iPhone assistant Siri was already released in 2011.\u003cbr/\u003e              But it is only in the last year that the voice assistants have become spoken of as the hubs in smart homes.\u003cbr/\u003e              The idea is that in the future all the smart gadgets in a home can connect to an assistant. Then the user will deal only with the assistant, and the assistant will in turn deal with the different gadgets from different brands with different technology.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"They see voice as the top of the funnel if you will. It is a way to tie everything together,\" says Paul Erickson, IHS market analyst company senior analyst.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Where the consumer doesn't really need to worry about all these different alliances and compatibility in the back end. They just have that one interface which is voice.
