The Afghan migrant said he was beaten and pushed back to Serbia nine of those times, but that won't stop him from trying again.             ...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eHamid Barekzai unsuccessfully tried to cross into Croatia 17 times in one year.\u003cbr/\u003e              The Afghan migrant said he was beaten and pushed back to Serbia nine of those times, but that won't stop him from trying again.\u003cbr/\u003e              International rights groups say there is enough evidence that Croatian police have for months been forcing asylum seekers back across the border from inside Croatia, in some cases using violence, taking their money and breaking their mobile phones, without giving them an opportunity to lodge claims for protection.\u003cbr/\u003e              Croatian officials have repeatedly denied the claims, but many migrants interviewed by the Associated Press this week described how they have been forced back.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"We will not stay here. We will go. If they beat, if they kill, anything they do, we will go, we will not stay. What should we do here? Here, there is no future,\" Barekzai, the 24-year-old from Afghanistan said at a crowded refugee centre in Serbia, only a few kilometres from the Croatian border.\u003cbr/\u003e              Barekzai said he was a graduate of medicine.\u003cbr/\u003e              A big wave of refugees on the so-called \"Balkan route,\" which hit Croatia in September 2015, calmed down after Hungary and the countries on the route closed their borders to refugees and migrants in March 2016.\u003cbr/\u003e              That left thousands stranded in Serbia - including women and children - sometimes sleeping in forests and abandoned factories and exposed to the weather.\u003cbr/\u003e              The migrants try to enter Croatia and continue to central and northern Europe, mostly to Germany.\u003cbr/\u003e              In its report earlier this year, Human Rights Watch said the summary return of asylum seekers from Croatia without consideration of their protection needs is contrary to EU asylum law, the EU charter of fundamental rights, and the international Refugee Convention.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"Yesterday I came from Croatia, and he (police) beat us and also take 900 Euros and also he tell that you didn't come and he take our phone and also broke down our phone, and after that he slapped that and very badly behaved with us,\" Haider Zaman Khan from Pakistan told the AP.\u003cbr/\u003e              Abdul Jabbar from Afghanistan said he tried to cross into Croatia three times and was beaten once.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"The second time I went with my friend...we pay taxi for Zagreb, 200 Euros\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003e              Instead of taking them to the Croatian capital, he said the taxi drove them straight to a police station.\u003cbr/\u003e              Serbian officials and doctors in the Adasevci refugee camp confirmed the stories, saying the beatings are regular.\u003cbr/\u003e              On the Serbian side of the border, hundreds of migrants now sleep out in the open in corn fields, forests and a roofless and abandoned printing factory littered with garbage and toxic waste.\u003cbr/\u003e              The only aid this group has comes from young NGOs from Spain and Germany, who provide them with food and water.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"People started coming back from the border with injuries.
