The 23rd annual...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eSARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL OPENS; OLIVER STONE AND JOHN CLEESE TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS\u003cbr/\u003e              The biggest film festival in the south-east Europe opened last night (11 AUG. 2017) in Sarajevo. \u003cbr/\u003e              The 23rd annual Sarajevo Film Festival will present lifetime achievement awards to director Oliver Stone and actor John Cleese. \u003cbr/\u003e              Both stars will receive the \"Heart of Sarajevo\" award and are expected to take part in question-and-answer sessions later in the festival program.\u003cbr/\u003e              The event opened with a screening of \"The Other Side of Hope\" by Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki.\u003cbr/\u003e              The movie, for which Kaurismaki won the Silver Bear for best director at this year's Berlin Film Festival, is a thematic follow-up of sorts to his 2011 film \"Le Havre.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              American director Joshua Oppenheimer is a guest of the festival, and his Oscar-nominated films \"Act of Killing\" and \"The Look of Silence\" will be screened as part of the event.  Participants will have the opportunity to meet the filmmaker during a masterclass session.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"My two films that I am here with now, 'The Act of Killing\" and 'The Look of Silence,' are about how human beings commit acts of genocide and how we live with that afterwards, both as perpetrators and survivors,\" said the 42-year-old director.  \"I made them in Indonesia, but in a way they were my response to the war in Bosnia, and the genocide in Bosnia.  I haven't been able to come to Bosnia yet with the films.  This is most meaningful place that I have had a chance to show these films.  I can't tell you how moved I am to be here.\"\u003cbr/\u003e              This year's Sarajevo Film Festival will show 235 films in 18 different programs, four of which are in competition.
