But it was a decision they would come to regret as life under the militants' rule ripped the family...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eLEADIN:\u003cbr/\u003e              An Indonesian family emigrated to Islamic State group territory in Syria in the hope of a better life.\u003cbr/\u003e              But it was a decision they would come to regret as life under the militants' rule ripped the family apart.\u003cbr/\u003e              STORYLINE:\u003cbr/\u003e              An Indonesian family were lured to Syria through its internet propaganda and blog posts promising a better life in an Islamic caliphate.\u003cbr/\u003e              The Islamic State group painted a picture of free education and health care for the females of the family, debts wiped for the father and uncle and work for the younger adults. All this while living in a puritanical Islamic society that appeared to be on the rise.\u003cbr/\u003e              Then 17 years old, Nurshardrina Khairadhania - also known as Nur - convinced her family they should emigrate to Syria.\u003cbr/\u003e              The family sold their possessions and raised 38,000 US dollars which they used to travel to Turkey and then to Raqqa in August 2015.\u003cbr/\u003e              But it didn't take long before their dreams were crushed.\u003cbr/\u003e              Once in Islamic State territory, the family was split into men and women: the men sent to Islamic education and the women to a female dormitory.\u003cbr/\u003e              Nur was shocked by bad behaviour, violence and theft amongst the other women - traits she felt were incompatible with a life that was meant to be more Islamic.\u003cbr/\u003e              And she and her female relatives were constantly pestered with marriage proposals from strangers.\u003cbr/\u003e              Nur's cousin did receive much-needed surgery from IS medics. But the promised education never materialised. \u003cbr/\u003e              The men in her family were jailed for refusing to fight for IS and had to go into hiding after their release. And as they never enrolled for military service, they never got the jobs or salaries they had expected and remain in debt.\u003cbr/\u003e              Worse still, Nur's grandmother died of old age and Nur's uncle was killed in an airstrike.\u003cbr/\u003e              Just six months after they arrived in Raqqa, the family was trying to find a way to escape.\u003cbr/\u003e              Nur found smugglers who spirited them out of the area for 4,000 US dollars.\u003cbr/\u003e              The family handed themselves in to Kurdish forces last month.\u003cbr/\u003e              The women now live in a camp for displaced people in Ain Issa.\u003cbr/\u003e              The five surviving men, including her father, are in detention somewhere north of there where they are being interrogated for possible links to IS.\u003cbr/\u003e            \u003cbr/\u003e\u003cbr/\u003e              ++CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE: THERE ARE TWO VERSIONS OF THIS STORY - ONE WITH ENGLISH CAPTIONS AND THE OTHER WITH ARABIC CAPTIONS++\u003cbr/\u003e              \u003cbr/\u003e              Ain Issa, Syria - 24 July 2017 \u003cbr/\u003e              1.
