They did not specify the ailments, but Zeffirelli has long suffered side effects after a hip surgery.\u003cbr/\u003e              British actor Robert Powell, who appeared in Zeffirelli's 1977 mini-series \"Jesus of Nazareth,\" was among about 300 people attending the celebration.\u003cbr/\u003e              The museum and performing arts center will display some 500 sketches of production sets that Zeffirelli made during his long career.\u003cbr/\u003e              \"It's a great honor to be a very small part of Franco's (Zeffirelli) huge career, I mean, it's an honor to have worked with him, he became a great friend, he'S a godfather to my children, and it's an experience we worked together 42 years ago and we've stayed friends ever since, so it's tremendous to be part of Franco's history, if you like\" said Robert Powell.\u003cbr/\u003e              As a theatre director, Zeffirelli staged the works of William Shakespeare, Edward Albee, Arthur Miller, Luigi Pirandello and Eduardo De Filippo both in Italy and abroad.\u003cbr/\u003e              He directed the movies \"Jane Eyre\" (1996)\", \"Tea with Mussolini\" (1999) and \"Callas Forever\" (2002) which was dedicated to opera singer Maria Callas.\u003cbr/\u003e              There were also film adaptations of Shakespeare's plays including \"The Taming of the Shrew\" (1967) with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, \"Romeo and Juliet\" (1968), with Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey and \"Hamlet\" (1990) with Mel Gibson and Glenn Close.\u003cbr/\u003e              The centre is divided into three sections: an archive, containing notes, designs, scripts, screenplays, storyboards and photos dating back to the beginning of Zeffirelli's career; a Library, boasting around 10,000 books on art, history, literature, theatre; and a museum, hosting more than 250 of Zeffirelli's works, including drawings, pictures and sketches.\u003cbr/\u003e              The new centre is to pass down Zeffirelli's heritage, promoting the study of theatre, cinema, costume design, direction and acting to younger generations.
