Various of horse sculptureLEADIN:An Iranian man who used to service cars has turned his knowledge of metal work into a career in art.Bahram Ashofteh makes sculptures by welding old car parts and other pieces of junk together.STORYLINE:An intricate horse's head crafted from rough and heavy car parts.This metalwork is produced by self-taught artist Bahram Ashofteh and is on display at the Ibne Sina cultural centre in Tehran.He's been making these sculptures for ten years, welding and hammering the materials to form a range of creatures. And despite the complexity of the designs, they are made intuitively, without any use of paper or modelling software.\"When the plan for a piece of work is ready in my memory, I can execute it quickly. The pieces on display here range in price from just over 100 US dollars to more than 5,000 dollars.One of the gallery visitor's says he is a \"genius\" because he has \"made it to such a high level\".Ashofteh spends many hours at his workbench to produce these creations.Complex sculptures can take four to five months to make - even up to eight months for the really large, intricate designs.Other smaller pieces can be put together in just a few hours, or in a single day.But whatever the size of the sculpture, Ashofteh is happiest when creating art with his blow torch and grinder.\"My best moments are when I'm at my workshop with my sculptures. Every day a new, creative idea comes to my mind,\" he says.\"This art is so big and full of variety that it is like a sea. You can always go further and further.
