Industry leaders and local companies are competing for attention at the event, which aims to share wisdom and know-how across the region. STORY-LINE : The biggest names in electric vehicles are showcasing their eco-credentials in Manila at the first ASEAN Electric and Hybrid vehicle summit on Thursday. Lexus, Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi are attending alongside Philippine manufacturers of electric vehicles. Rommel Juan, the President Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, says it's a good opportunity to share ideas, technologies and even policies.\"To be together with the Philippine's hosting of the ASEAN summit we decided to come up with the very first ASEAN electric vehicle and hybrid summit. So that is what we have here so we invited delegates from Malaysia, Thailand Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia to join the summit so that we can share best practices and share resources, share technologies even policies,\" he says. The event attracted over 600 participants led by electric and hybrid vehicle industry players, government officials, technical leaders and executives from global technology companies.\"We really want to be the voice of the ASEAN for electric vehicles because there is already an organization for Asia Pacific for Europe and the US and there is no association yet for the ASEAN so we want to join together all the association of the ASEAN countries electric vehicle associations of ASEAN countries and form a federation so that we have one voice that will represent the ASEAN,\" Juan adds.Ramesh Narasimhan, Nissan's Philippine president and Managing director, says eco-vehicles are the future. \"There is an increasing acceptance of the electric vehicles, I think as the market acceptance increases the cost will go down against the current vehicles and I think future belongs to low emission vehicles what ever shape or form that is.\" Some of the main players in the industry are on show here. Lexus, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan have six electric plug in electric and hybrid vehicle on display. There are also around 13 different local manufacturers of e-vehicles and charging technologies, showcasing their products. Visitor Alex Carzo says he thinks e-cars offer value for money. \"I am interested on electric vehicles because as you know the prices of petrol are higher, imagine one litre of gasoline will cost you already fifty pesos ($1 US) with this vehicle the Prius they say 37 kilometre per litre so imagine the saving you can get.\"The ASEAN Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Summit runs June 29-30.Manila, 29 June 20171.
