STORYLINE:Letter of love.At Christie's auction house in London, this rarely seen painting by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso is wowing crowds.It depicts his muse and mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter, who he met seven years prior.She sits by a window in Boisgeloup chateau near Paris, penning a letter to her beloved artist. She's depicted with rounded curves, flowing blonde hair and red lips.Picasso hung on to the work until 1961 - more than 25 years after it was painted. It's now expected to fetch between 25 and 40 million British pounds (approx. 32-51 million US dollars) at auction. \"This painting is painted of Picasso's muse, and she's probably the biggest love of his life,\" explains art critic Estelle Lovatt.\"It's the most extraordinary painting. It hasn't been seen at auction before and it's been in private hands for over fifty years. \"And this is one of the paintings that Picasso held onto and had in his studio. And I think it was because he was probably more in love with her than anybody else.\"This portrait was in the artist's collection until 1961. Named, 'Femme écrivant' - or 'Woman Writing' - it's dated 26 March 1934.\"At the time that he met her, he was 45 so of course he had already established himself as a wonderful genius in the contemporary art world and she was a young teenager of 17,\" explains Lovatt.\"And when he met her, it was outside Galleries Lafayette in Paris, she was going to buy a blouse. He was bored of his Russian wife and he looked at her and instantly it was love at first sight. And he said: 'I must draw you'.\"The painting features Marie-Therese writing a letter - a significant biographical detail. Picasso was married to Russian ballet dancer Olga Khokhlova at the time, his relationship with Marie-Therese was conducted in secret. That meant letter-writing played a big part.There are almost a thousand letters written between the two archived at Paris' Musee Picasso.\"She is writing to him on blue paper, a letter,\" explains Giovanna Bertazzoni from Christie's.\"And we think that this is also a reference to how much of this relationship clearly had to be played through letters, billets doux, hidden words - all the relationship clearly had to be in secret. \"And writing and communicating by writing was a big part of it. So there is a very poignant, romantic aspect to it.\"Picasso paintings of Marie-Therese are sought after works of art, with 'Le Reve (The Dream)' fetching 155 million US dollars in 2013. This piece is no exception.\"This is representing really the summum, the acme of his production,\" says Bertazzoni.\"This is the phase where he's considered most inspired and changing his cubism, softening it to more round, soft curvaceous forms to mirror her plentiful forms and colour explodes and that's very important, you know. \"There is this explosion of chromatic values that makes this phase also very commercially appealing.\"A collector could be equally taken with this piece. Lovatt says it could well fetch above its estimated price of 25-40 million British pounds.\"When you're talking about works of this standard, the prices don't drop. You know, the small and the middle markets do and that's for all sorts of reasons you wouldn't even imagine,\" she says.\"Apart from the art fair something as simple as Instagram - the art Instagram sites - have affected it. But when you're talking about a work of this calibre, you know, also the fact that it's an evening sale, will help to boost the price up. \"An evening sale is a place where people want to be seen to be buying. In the morning, everyone's sleeping. So this is pitched at an evening sale. It's really important. \"Will it go above and beyond? You know, it's estimated at anywhere between 25 and 40 million. Will it go above and beyond? Probably.
