Liu was diagnosed in May this year, according to Chinese prison authorities on Monday, and has been transferred to a local hospital in the Shenyang province. During a regular briefing on Tuesday, Lu Kang, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, said no nation had the right to make irresponsible remarks about China's domestic affairs, and declined to comment on whether China would consider transferring Liu to another country for treatment. Liu, a literary critic and essayist, was already in less than robust health when he was detained and later sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2009, according to his former lawyer.
