Many of the dogs are getting a second chance at life and some have even been fitted with special wheelchairs to get them on the move. STORY-LINEIn winter, when most Peruvians avoid the beach, shelter owner Sara Moran takes her dogs on walks by the sea. All of these animals come from the large population of abandoned canines that roam Lima's streets. Moran never thought that her home in a poorer neighbourhood of Peru's capital would become a makeshift shelter for 70 strays when she rescued a dog after it was run over and almost killed by a car in 2007. \"To endure in a house with 70 dogs, has not been easy, but not impossible, we have been able to help many dogs, restore, cure, and some of them we have been able to get into new homes,\" says Moran.Some of the dogs are sicker than others. Many are unable to move and need nappies or diapers. The animals need bedding and clothing too. But feeding the large pack 365 days of the year is the hardest part for Moran. She relies on donations from neighbours and strangers touched by her labour of love. She also makes sure the dogs receive plenty of moral nourishment.    \"The idea of having this place is to be able to give quality of life (especially to those who are sicker), to be able to help this puppy that suffered from being run over, mistreated or other situation to find love,\" says Moran.The shelter provides the dogs with wheelchairs to improve their mobility if they have been injured or cannot walk. The road to recovery for many of the dogs is not easy, however.\"Many (dogs) have been able to walk again, but it is also sad that they walk but they are not able to get a home, and go back to the street,\" says Moran.Lima, Peru - 18 June 20171.
