Peruvian National Police Director Gen. Vicente Romero told reporters the drugs were seized during a series of special operations across the Piura coastal region of the country; and additionally in the VRAEM region in the Amazon rain forest, which accounts for 70 percent of cocaine production in Peru. Seven suspects were arrested, among them both Ecuadorian and Peruvian nationals, he said.
