I'm extremely honored,\" Staples said.Also in attendance to perform was Grammy and Academy award winning artist Common, who shared how Parks specifically influenced him. \"His work has meant a lot to me. I was able to use one of his photos for an album of mine. My album cover of 'Like Water for Chocolate' but, pre that and post that Gordon Parks' always been one of those people who tells the story of culture, black people that you know was very unique. So to get the honor to perform for his foundation is an honor,\" he said.   New York based muralist Kehinde Wiley is known for his grand scale paintings that places every day African Americans in regal or heroic poses. He was thrilled to be among the evening's impressive guest list. \"I think that one of the things we have to do is, grab yourself and pinch yourself when you're mentioned in the same conversation as some of these world changing artists,\" he said. Music producer Kasseem \"Swizz Beatz\" Dean and his wife, Alicia Keyes, are co-chairs of the foundation.\"It's an honor to be an honoree of Gordon Parks Foundation and it's also an honor to be here every year to support the Gordon Parks Foundation and the family. Peter Kunhardt, everybody that put this lovely event together and to see it growing you know, it's growing every year and I'm happy to be here,\" he said.   Many other influencers in music, art, philanthropy and politics, like legendary actor Harry Belafonte, Black Thought, American Express Chairman \u0026 CEO Kenneth Chenault and Chelsea Clinton, also came together in support of the event.
