STILL of table ++STILL OVERLAID WITH AUDIO FROM SOUNDTRACK PLAYED AT EXHIBITION++LEADIN:A Jordanian craftsman has combined metalwork, carpentry and sound design for an innovative new exhibition.Basel Naouri compiled a soundtrack from the sounds of his sanders, drills and hammers which he plays alongside his furniture designs.STORYLINE:Beautiful furniture crafted from recycled wood is on display at this exhibition.But listen carefully and you can hear there's something else going on.Basel Naouri's innovative exhibition '432 Hz' plays a soundtrack that incorporates hammer taps, grinding saws and cracking welders as visitors view the pieces.The unusual music is this architect and musician's way of connecting buyers to the process of creating modern furniture.Naouri arrives at the workshop with headphones on and microphone in hand.But before he and worker Maher Tawbaj can begin making furniture, they have to select the wood.And it has unusual background - he's using salvaged material from old school desks.He feels its history adds something special.\"The children spoke on it, on it are stories. Maybe one student wrote this, maybe one student loves another, there's a lot of stories there preserved in the wood,\" he says.\"Maybe that student has grown up and forgotten all about this story - but it remains here.\"Naouri and Tawbaj get to work, measuring up a table top.But once the design has been plotted out, there is more to the manufacturing process than simply cutting the wood.While Tawbaj operates the saw, Naouri is at his shoulder recording every sound with his microphone.The buzzes and hums of the machinery will be used in the musical soundtrack he produces for the exhibition.The idea is to overcome what he calls the \"alienation\" present in modern furniture creation - and involve the buyer in the process.\"I wanted to take all the sounds from this experience and afterwards play just a little bit and connect the sounds in order to tell a story,\" he says.\"The story of the iron, the story of the sawdust, and these others we got in the process. If one listens to it they can come with us through that process from the first point until the last one.\"Naouri's novel approach to exhibiting and his love of using recycled materials is winning fans.One patron, Mamdouh el-Bisharat - Jordan's only duke, is impressed he uses wood other designers would throw away.\"If you give me something ugly, I'll give you something beautiful.
