The person was not authorized to talk publicly about the decision and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.The department's decision doesn't preclude state authorities from conducting their own investigation and pursuing their own criminal charges.Two cellphone videos of Sterling's deadly struggle with two white officers, Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II, quickly spread on social media after the shooting.A police report says Sterling was initially jolted with a stun gun after he didn't comply with the officers' commands to put his hands on the hood of a car. The report also says the officers saw the butt of a gun in one of Sterling's pants pockets and saw him try to reach for it before he was shot.Outside the convenience store, dozens of people gathered Tuesday upon hearing the news and held a vigil. One of Alton's aunts spoke at the vigil and led the crowd in chants of \"No justice, no peace!\"Baton Rouge, Louisiana - 2 May, 20171. They got evidence that somebody is clearly guilty of a crime, they're going to quickly slap charges on them. It's not going to take a year, two years. It's going to take them two hours to decide if they're wrong or right. And they got evidence, video footage, that the man wasn't reaching for no pistol. You see Salamoni come in and escalate that situation and murder this individual, even though he had a gun. The biggest thing about this is most people will say this was a convicted felon with a firearm. Did Salamoni know that upon initial contact? No he did not. This after death and one of the things we have been great at doing here in America is victimizing the victim and using them and demonizing them through the media. Well he was a convicted felon. He didn't have a right to have a firearm. But he didn't reach for the firearm from the videos that we saw and that's why we are standing behind Alton Sterling and his family.\"7.
