Currently, they are talking in different locations about different things, in Astana about a ceasefire. This is already difficult enough, in Geneva about a political solution, everyone in the international community declares that there is no military solution, everyone declares a political one is needed, but it seems to be extraordinarily difficult to get the different parties moving in this political process.\"3. This is also part of it. Those who are honest with themselves know that this will only happen during the process, during the change to a more democratic Syria, and the opposition needs to try to create greater internal unity. Europe must not be a spectator in this process. We are 500 million citizens in Europe. We are the direct neighbors. I would find it difficult if we only keep waiting for the U.S. and Russia to reach the negotiating table on their own. It requires the active intervention of the U.S. and our shared impression of my Jordanian colleague and myself was that the American administration, with the appointment of Mr. Greenblatt as an envoy to the region, who understood that this conflict isn't a side issue in the fight against terrorism, but that the U.S., Europe and also Germany have a shared interest to see it solved. Germany has to play an active role. We have a number of tools, for example economic support, we want to employ in a strong manner. This requires that Israel is willing to consider it in its interest to open economic perspective for the Palestinians, because it's part of a security approach.\"9.
