So right now there is a conservation education programme that exists at the school but we are going to help try to improve and build on that programme once the school is finished.\"21. The wildlife here is beneficial to the country. Because these animals here are endemic, visitors come here. And the visitors bring in money to our community. And this money helps us build schools and health facilities. And schools help alleviate the level of illiteracy in a generation. Various overhead of villageLEADINThe African Wildlife Foundation has come up with an elaborate scheme to preserve the endangered wildlife at Simien Mountains National Park.It's invested in businesses around the park, whose profits then go back into the community and conservation.STORYLINEThe breathtaking views across Simien Mountains National Parks in Ethiopia's northern highlands.Not only is it a landscape of great beauty, it's one of the oldest World Heritage Sites with regional and global significance for its biodiversity conservation. Established in 1969, UNESCO registered the park as a World Heritage Site in 1978 and is the country's only natural World Heritage Site.\"It is a water tower for Ethiopia. But also it is an ecological phenomenon for the country\", says President of African Wildlife Foundation Kaddu Sebunya. \"It is a world heritage site as well. So it is important to Ethiopia, it is important for Ethiopia's economy, it is important to the global community.\"The area boasts diverse wildlife. The Chelada Baboons, endemic to Ethiopia, begin their day by grooming each other under the mild warmth of the morning sun.But even though the park was one of the first natural reserves to make it onto the list of World Heritage Sites, it is presently regarded as an endangered site following years of environmental and wildlife abuse by human settlers in and around the reserved area.The main reason, according to the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority, is the growing human population and unsustainable use of natural resources by locals residing within the confines of the reserved area.To avert the dire effect of the human settlers on the wildlife population, the African Wildlife Foundation together with local, regional and national partners has devised an elaborate scheme that would potentially preserve the wildlife biodiversity.Through its specialised socio-economic programmes, it builds businesses around the park so that the return would go into benefiting the community, the land and wildlife.
