The group said it believes China executed thousands, but it didn't offer a more precise estimate due to a lack of accurate information.Amnesty said its figure for worldwide executions excluding China represents a 37 percent drop from 2015. The United States recorded 20 executions, its fewest in 25 years, in part because of court rulings and shortages of chemicals used in lethal injections.Yet as other countries shift away from capital punishment, China increasingly is seen as an outlier, said Amnesty International East Asia Director Nicholas Bequelin.Chinese government officials did not immediately comment on Amnesty's report. Now, some of that reduction is down to legal challenges linked to problems with lethal injections. But there is something deeper going on. Last year we also saw the lowest number of death sentences imposed since 1973, in more than 40 years. So judges and juries are increasingly less willing to hand out this punishment. This shows how when the death penalty, whether there is information available about the death penalty and there's committed work by lawyers and activists and families of those facing the death penalty on how progress can be made.\"  6. But the analysis shows that for this data sets the highest type of crimes for which death penalties apply, is homicide, robberies and drug crimes. But again, we can't be sure of, because you have hundreds or even thousands of cases that are missing. But we found also other worrying patterns in the database and they're worrying because they mirror what we know from the death penalty worldwide.
