The actress made the comments on the red carpet for the annual MCC Miscast Gala Monday night (3 APRIL 2017) in New York. The Emmy-winner spoke about her admiration for the theater company, the importance of the arts in difficult times, and what's she done since her successful television show came to an end.The gala celebrated the accomplishments of the theater company's artistic directors Bernie Telsey, Robert LuPone, and William Cantler. It also included performances by Broadway stars. Margulies was one of the evening's special guests, along with Tina Fey.Margulies appeared in the MCC production of \"Intrigue with Faye\" in 2003, and has maintained a deep appreciation for the theater company. \"They are relentless in their endeavor to find ways to support new playwrights, actors, directors, and it's a privilege to be a part of this group.\"While MCC has provided solid theatrical content on and off Broadway for 30 years, these days the arts are under siege with proposed federal budget cuts. Margulies sees the importance of the arts as a reflection of complicated times, as well as providing a legacy for future generations. \"At the end of the day, what are we going to have left but the arts to tell our story? Paintings and books and theater and everything that has to do with what we can leave as our story is the arts,\" Margulies said.She recalled being at an event where an unlikely speaker ranked the significance of the arts:\"I heard a wonderful speaker once say - and he was a businessman - said that he was miffed as to why the arts wasn't on the A section, the front section of the New York Times, instead of all the way in the back, because it's all we have to leave our children and our grandchildren and our great grandchildren.\"Margulies concluded by saying: \"It's very important, especially in today's world, I think it's more important than ever that we're able to express ourselves and be heard.\"The star also commented on what's she's been doing since her award-winning television series, \"The Good Wife,\" came to an end.\"I've been doing nothing. I've been eating bonbons and getting fat and lazy,\" she said before breaking into laughter.\"I've been doing stuff. I've been having fun.
