The popular art fair is celebrating its 11th edition and opens to the public today (15th March 2017) with 94 galleries from more than 40 countries.  STORYLINE Kicking off its 11th year - Art Dubai says this is its most globally diverse art fair yet. 94 galleries from 43 countries are taking part in the increasingly popular fair at Dubai's Madinat Jumeirah. Collectors can grab themselves  the likes of \"Fresque de Craies\"  by Cameroonian artist Pascal Martine Tayou's for a mere 170,000 dollars. But, according to organisers, the art form gaining traction this year is digital \"The selection of galleries and the selections of works in Art Dubai intend to give like a vision of what's going on in the world in terms of young and mid career creation so whoever comes to the fair, you will find very exciting dialogues between artists that are dealing with new media like video or video installations or digital art and then you could also be having the chance of experiencing sculpture and painting and different medias,\" says Pablo del Val the International Director of Art Dubai. One of the most popular new media artists showcasing at the fair is Team Lab, a Japanese collective of more than 400 people who create and design code that translates into visual pieces. \"I think it is a vocabulary and it is an expression and it is a technique that everyday artists are using more often especially the younger generation so we are focusing or we are starting to sort of deal with the way of expressing that really ties or really goes together with the way that the youngsters are communicating\" says del Tal.Martin Broome is the director of Martin Broome Contemporary and is showing the collective's artwork.   \"Team Lab are really the hottest new media artists in the world right now. There has been a lot of interest and we have never shown them in the UAE or in the Middle East before, this is the first presentation and we decided that that it was time to come and show the work here,\" he says. Team Lab is showcasing six pieces at the fair. One of the pieces, \"Four Seasons a 1000 years, Terraced Rice fields-Tashibunosho\" shows the rice fields of Tashibunosho, a small town in Southern Japan. The piece is synchronised to the sunrise and sunset of the town. The image is constantly changing. Most of the pieces depict nature. \"The thing really is to reconnect us to the natural world through digital so in the presentation here we have waterfalls, we have interactive pieces, blooming flowers, waves, we have got it covered,\" says Broome. But if you want to bag some digital natural world in your home - it will set you back between 65,000 -100,000 US dollars. Some of Team Lab's artwork is uses interactive sensory technology. \"Flowers and People\" changes as people approach or walk away from the piece with flowers blooming and exploding depending of the viewer's proximity. On first impact the works seem a big leap from traditional oil on canvas, but Broome says that the pieces still capture timeless Japanese themes. \"Digital art is the latest medium through which artists are seeking to express those same timeless things. I mean the subjects of Team Lab's work are really about the same things that Japanese artists have always been interested in - nature -  the impermanence of life.\"  \"This is the exciting thing about contemporary art: it is how the new expresses our feelings so digital art in a way is really the tool to express what humanity is going through so I will recommend people who don't understand digital art or don't consider it as such to just get immersed in it and experience those works that are really engaging and I am sure that after a little bit of reading and after a bit of facing themselves with the works they will totally understand how magic they are,\" adds del Val.Art Dubai runs from 15 - 18 March 2017.Dubai, UAE, March 14, 20171.
