He supports the joint statement issued by the foreign language film nominees, condemning what they say is a climate of fascism.\"Well I just think that cinema at its ideal, art at its most ideal should be about crossing borders, should be about different parts of the world speaking to each other,\" said Chazelle. \"Those are the kinds of movies that have interested me are the ones that combine different cultures of are the product of different cultures coming together.
