It is meant as a counter point to President Trump's plan to build a multi-billion dollar wall on the US/Mexico border, according the artists and anthropologists who put it together. The wall is comprised of 700 backpacks that were discarded in a debris field in southern Arizona after migrants have passed through the Sonora Desert. The exhibit is called 'State of Exception' and is on display at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center's Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery, part of the Parsons School of Design. The art project was started four years ago at the University of Michigan and has grown and expanded since then. It also includes photos taken by migrants as they crossed the border; the personal effects of several unidentified people who have died trying to migrate; and a video installation meant to invoke the fear and uncertainty of trying to enter the country illegally through the desert.New York - February 10, 2017++SOUNDBITES OVERLAYING BROLL THROUGHOUT++ 1.
