Various exteriors of Spirito Santo hospital, signage reading: \"Civil Hospital\"STORYLINE:A friend of Vincenzo Forti, one of the survivors of the hotel avalanche in central Italy, said his friend's survival following the incident was nothing short of \"miraculous\".Luigi Valiante was speaking to reporters on Sunday after visiting Forti at Spirito Santo hospital in Pescara where he was hospitalised.Forti told Valiante there were three of them stranded in a small area, with no lights. They used their mobile phones to see until the batteries died, Valiante said, recounting his conversation with his friend on his hospital bed.Italian rescue crews were on Sunday digging through the Hotel Rigopiano, which was buried by the avalanche. They said there could be additional survivors more than three days after tons of snow came barrelling down a mountainside.Nine survivors from the Wednesday evening avalanche were located in air pockets inside the crushed hotel on Friday.Rescue officials say there are other spaces where some of the 23 people still missing might be found alive.Five bodies have been recovered from the hotel's wreckage.Rain is making the snow heavy and complicating the manual rescue operation.
