Takata has agreed to plead guilty. Three executives have been charged. There's a question about whether they will be extradited here to the United States. The U.S. government will pursue that. It's not a guarantee. There will be a $125 million fund set aside for people who have been injured, people who have died, their families can collect from this fund.\"3. There will be a $125 million fund for victims of these defective air bags. Twenty-five million will go to the government, and the rest _ the lion's share of this  money _ will go to the automakers to pay for the recall, the replacement of all these air bags. Remember, the automakers were the customers here of Takata. They bought the air bags and had them installed. Most of this $1 billion will go to pay to replace those air bags.\"5. McQuade cutaway6. She's not showing all her cards, but she's saying that they're still looking at what happened. This happened over many, many years. Started back in 2000.\"9. McQuade and the others start to leave the roomSTORYLINE:Takata has agreed to plead guilty to a single criminal charge and will pay $1 billion in fines and restitution for a years-long scheme to conceal a deadly defect in its automotive air bag inflators. The U.S. attorney's office in Detroit announced the deal Friday, hours after it unsealed a six-count grand jury indictment against three former Takata officials who are accused of executing the scheme by falsifying and altering test reports that showed the inflators could rupture. Takata inflators can explode with too much force, spewing shrapnel into automobiles. At least 11 people have been killed in the U.S. and 16 worldwide because of the defect. More than 180 have been injured. Under the deal, Takata will pay a $25 million criminal fine, $125 million to individuals injured by the air bags and $850 million to automakers that purchased the inflators. A federal judge will be asked to appoint attorney Kenneth Feinberg to distribute restitution payments. Payments to individuals must be made soon. Money due to automakers must be paid within five days of Takata's anticipated sale or merger.
