Various of skiers and snowboarders at A-Basin Ski AreaSTORYLINE: Skiers and snowboarders have been flocking to the mountains of Colorado after a powerful storm dropped a deep and long-awaited layer of snow across the West _ and the powder keeps on coming. Avalanche danger forced a handful of resorts in Colorado and the Sierra Nevada to close, disappointing skiers but giving the industry a golden opportunity to publicize a good problem to have _ too much snow.Crested Butte Mountain Resort in western Colorado shut down its lifts late in the day Monday because of high winds and heavy, wet snow. Resort officials closed the mountain out of concern for guests and employees, then tweeted a photo of snow piled high at a measuring station with the line \"We officially #buriedthebutte.\"Monarch Mountain ski area closed for a day this week because of avalanche control work on Monarch Pass, and Arapahoe Basin closed because of the avalanche danger on Loveland Pass. Afterward, A-Basin tweeted simply, \"Snow, Snow, Snow,\" and Monarch tweeted a photo of powder piled next to its sign with the tag #toomuchsnow. In the Sierra Nevada, more than 10 feet of snow fell in the past week at some ski resorts around Lake Tahoe. Some terrain at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is avalanche territory but ski patroller Ryan Evanczyk said they're out daily clearing out the avalanche danger and also keep that area closed to skiers.
