So when we started the work out, we thought we don't want to do women's only class, we don't want to do men's only class, but we also want women and men to be comfortable. So if you follow our diet, all your levels from inside will stabilise and like they say, you're what you eat. You know, of course if you're on a healthy diet, you know all the toxins and everything that you have been doing (decreases), like when your fat reduces, your stamina increases.\"31. Wide top shot of the city at nightLEADIN: A growing number of Pakistanis are turning to fitness workouts and exercises to combat the strains and stresses of city living in Karachi.STORYLINE:Fit and focused Sania Danish arrives at her fitness centre early in morning, seven days a week.The thirty year old is a mother with three children and she's been serious about sticking to her fitness regime for a year.Danish believes a morning class like this helps her to create the energy she need to kick start her day.She says: \"Exercise is not just about being lean and being fit. There are other factors to it, also. If you start your day off with exercise, let's say in the morning, or evening, it keeps you mentally relaxed and you know your body that you know, you're fit the whole day, you're energetic the whole day and besides that it keeps you away from a lot of diseases in today's world.\"Danish is one of hundreds of fitness enthusiasts who are now regular members of this fitness centre located one of Karachi's uptown neighbourhoods.The club says its membership shows an increased awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Members say a regular work out also helps cope with the multiple stresses of living in a busy and crowded city like Karachi which has a population close to two million.IT consultant Ahmed Faraz now aged in his fifties, is an enthusiast.Faraz believes fitness is permeating Pakistani culture on a broader scale.He says: \"If you watch movies or dramas, not just the lead actors but everyone in it is extremely fit. So now everybody appreciates fitness and everyone wants to look good. So the increased awareness along with the abundance of availability has brought about this surge in fitness-related activities. Previously, there were no trainers in gyms. Now there are trainers. There weren't any exercise programmes, now there are exercise and aerobics programmes; there are ladies' trainers and it wasn't the case before.\"Along with other members, Faraz is enrolled in a fitness programme similar to CrossFit. There are scheduled classes with over a dozen members benefiting from the individual attention they're given by certified trainers.The exercise group has female and male instructors, with participants of both sexes exercising side by side.Syed Kamran Ahmed who trained with the American College of Sports Medicine leads the session. He ensures his students use the correct form and posture to maximise fitness without injury.Ahmed says: \"What the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) guidelines tell us, is that a person should lose a maximum of 1.5 to  two kilograms in a month. The life style is hectic and time is sparse.This environment has encouraged fitness collectives to develop like this one called the 42 Day Challenge.It's large outdoor classes are held when the cooler night draws in.The class focuses on high-intensity interval training.The '42-Day Challenge' fitness collective is the idea of a couple of university students.It proved so popular, it's become a national enterprise.Co-founder Nusrat Hidayatullah helped establish the collective for university students with little time and resources for a healthy lifestyle. Hidayatullah, who  is also a working lawyer, explains taking activity mainstream was tricky because it relied on big male and female classes in a society which is culturally conservative.She explains: \"Our society does kind of separate people, but they don't want to be separated, like we didn't. So when we started the work out, we thought we don't want to do women's only class, we don't want to do men's only class, but we also want women and men to be comfortable. So let's separate them in a way, but have them together. So, the incredible thing is that people have found their own groove at the workouts.\"Her co-founder Torsam Tajik is a doctor by profession so in addition to the classes he devises their nutrition and healthy diet plans.Tajik says: \"Our programme is built in such a way that one week is muscle building week, then the other week is fat loss week and the diet is seventy per cent of our game. So if you follow our diet, all your levels from inside will stabilise and like they say, you're what you eat.
