One of them was Australia. Its cake's multiple layers were packed in separate boxes to be assembled once in the UK. But in a planned stopover in Israel the boxes fell and the cake was damaged.\"Royal cake in airplane accident\", read the headline of the local Davar newspaper on 15 October 1947.  But a modest baker of Polish origins, who was working in a coffee shop in Jerusalem, would become one of its saviors.Shaul Petrushka worked in the famous Tuv Ta'am (Hebrew for good taste) coffee shop in Jerusalem at the time.The airport manager decided to send the cake to Tuv Ta'am in the hope the city's top bakers would be able to salvage it - and they did.Some 70 years later Petrushka's great-granddaughter, pastry chef Michal Bouton, has created an exhibition that tells his story.Helping fix the cake was probably one of the most exciting moments in her great-grandfather's baking career, said Bouton. She couldn't recreate the cake her great-grandfather saved as she was unable to identify it in the pictures documenting the 50 wedding cakes sent for the nuptials of the royal couple. Instead, she recreated the official wedding cake. It took Bouton months to find a designer who was able to design an exact replica, and more than two months to put it together. David Sosnovsky, the industrial designer who collaborated with Bouton, said reconstructing the replica was a very elaborate process.Parts of it are not edible, rather made from polystyrene and nylon.Hung on the walls of the exhibition are the original articles published in October 1947 about the incident.Tel Aviv - 28 December 20161.
