This Halloween two people will bed down in coffins as part of a promotion by accommodation website Airbnb. STORY-LINE: Nestled in the heart of Transylvania, this is said to be the home of Dracula. Bran Castle is famous for its connection to Vlad the Impaler, a real-life prince who stayed there in the 15th century and had a cruel habit of using stakes to impale his victims.But it was Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, written in 1897, that cemented the legendary tale. The novel tells the story of a vampire called Count Dracula and his attempt to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood.It's been the subject of numerous films and TV shows and the legend brings more than 630,000 visitors to Bran Castle every year. \"We came here because we love Halloween so what drew us to Romania was Transylvania, we wanted to see Dracula's castle and just experience the whole Dracula, even though they're saying there's not much that connects Dracula to the castle but that's what drew us here. So anything here in Transylvania we're looking forward to coming and seeing and visiting,\" says Gina Ricciardi, a visitor from Boca Raton, Florida.This Halloween, new residents will move in for one night only. Two vampire lovers will get to sleep in the fortress where nobody has spent the night for 70 years. It's part of a contest by accommodation website Airbnb. \"This year we're taking a shot at a legend of the undead which is Dracula here in Transylvania and we're putting Dracula's castle on  Airbnb just for one night. You'll be able to sleep in a real coffin, you won't eat any garlic, you won't touch any silver, you won't look into any mirrors so you would live the life as if it was Count Dracula,\" says Ekaterina Kukurenko from Airbnb.The guests will be wined and dined, then left alone to lie down in red velvet-trimmed coffins just as Dracula did in the Bram Stoker horror novel.As part of the competition, applicants are being asked to use their \"vampiric wit\" to imagine what they'd say to Count Dracula if they met him. Winners will be flown to Romania and then taken to the castle. The marketing manager at Bran Castle, Alex Priscu says people have long been fascinated by Dracula, and interest in new vampire fiction has created new fans of the genre. \"Lets look back and start with Bram Stoker's book, 1897, people were shocked I think, I would say in regards to vampires. Of course the society had this thirst for goth stories so it was fear and curiosity. Later on it was just curiosity and recently because of the new novels and and new angle of looking at the vampire and the evolution,\" he says. Bran Castle was originally a military fortress, strategically set on a highway that links Transylvania to southern Romania.Vlad the Impaler did not own the castle, but is believed to have used it briefly during his incursions in Transylvania. He is also believed to have been imprisoned in the castle for two months in 1462 when he was captured by a rival Hungarian king. Following World War I, the castle was given to Queen Marie in gratitude for her role in unifying Transylvania with the rest of Romania. She bequeathed it to her youngest daughter Princess Ileana. In 1948, the Communists seized it from Ileana. In 2006, years after communism ended, the castle was returned to Ileana's son Dominic Hapsburg, a retired New York architect. His sisters spent their childhood there. A Romanian company manages the castle which is rented for weddings, soirees and corporate events.The competition is being described as a once in a lifetime opportunity to get close to Dracula. The winning pair will arrive in a horse drawn carriage and tour the castle. They'll then be treated to a candlelight dinner of chicken paprikash, the same meal described in the novel.After dinner they will sleep in two coffins, though beds are on hand if they are too spooked.
