More than 2,000 companies have applied to take part in the 12-week programme. Just 30 have been picked for the first round.Danish company Labster is one of the lucky few.It plans to change the face of laboratory education. Matthias Heim, Head of Content Strategy at Labster, describes it as a \"virtual laboratory simulator\".\"You will have all the equipment that you have in a real lab and you can experiment with everything,\" he says.Heim and a colleague demonstrate the lab's virtual reality goggles.Labster says equipment like this will allow users to save money as they won't have to restock real-life supplies, and it's a safer - students can make mistakes without destroying expensive items.The company already has a prototype they are working with and the programme is available to a few universities including University of California, Berkeley. But Heim thinks Dubai is more open to this idea than many other places in the world.\"We hope that because Dubai is moving so fast that we can bring our content into the universities and high school much faster than in other countries,\" he says.\"Because it is often very difficult to convince schools and teachers for new innovations and we think Dubai is the perfect place to do exactly that.\"Another company that is hoping to change an industry in the UAE is Construction Robotics. The US-based company has developed a brick-laying robot called SAM - the Semi-Automated Mason.\"It takes the heavy lifting away from the mason and allows to get more productivity done in a day with one mason and a labourer,\" says Zak Podkaminer, Strategy and Business development manager at Construction Robotics. SAM makes building a wall look easy - and that could be invaluable in Dubai.It is a growing city with thousands of constructions sites underway.But Podkaminer says there are differences to take into account when working here.\"Since they don't do much brick over here in Dubai, our project has mainly been focused on looking at the building materials that they have, which is block, and as you can see block is, you know, very, very heavy,\" he says.\"Try lifting one of these blocks and it's heavy. So our goal is to design a system that really takes that heavy lifting away from the mason and allows them to get more productivity done with just one individual so if one person could do the amount of ten people in a day that would be significant.\" The Dubai Future Accelerator programme also has a 275 million US dollar investment fund that they will use to buy equity in companies participating in the initiative.
