All around the country political parties are taking part in rallies and people are making their final decisions on how to vote.They'll be the first elections in the country since the new constitution which came about as a result of the Arab Spring uprising.Since the last legislative elections the Islamist Party of Justice and Development (PJD) - led by current Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane - has led a government coalition comprised of several parties with differing ideologies. This year however the PJD faces tough competition from the secular opposition, paticularly the up and coming liberal Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM), a party widely regarded as being close to the palace after it was founded in 2008 by childhood friend of King Mohammed VI and current royal advisor, Fouad Ali El Himma.But people like Hassan Anssari, a student in Oujda, keep their faith in the PJD.\"We are faithful to the PJD Party because we are convinced that this party can serve the interests of the people. This party cares about the interests of poor\", he says.Unpopular policies made by the PJD-led government, particularly the pension reform and the decision to cut subsidies on several products, have become easy targets for the opposition, which accuses the ruling party of undermining the country's stability. With high unemployment and low literacy, Morocco has struggled with radicalisation and extremism, with as many as 1,000 Moroccans joining the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria. Ilyass El Omari, PAM General Secretary, claims that radicalisation has been increased by the PJD \"clinging to its ideological positions\".He insists his party intends to combat this: \"The main and important objective for us is the culture, to resist extremism and terrorism in the world and in Morocco\", he says.Agriculture is one of Morocco's most important economic sectors but many in rural areas feel let down by the current government.Farmer Ali says: \"The harvest was very bad and this has caused a lot of damage to us and to our livestock. We did not get agricultural support and the government does not help us with anything.\" It's not only in rural areas that people have been left disappointed. Rabat Al Hilali is 40 years old and works for a bank near the Mohamed V University in Rabat. He says:\"The Moroccan people have hope in the Benkirane Government to reform the scholastic programmes and to solve the problem of overcrowding in schools. The Moroccan people were hopeful for this government, but unfortunately they did not succeed in meeting the expectations of the Moroccan people.\" More than 15 million Moroccans are registered to vote out of 20 million who are eligible. Turn out is generally low for Moroccan elections and teacher Zakaria Nassiri says he fears the older ages of the candidates may put off younger voters:\"Voting is a duty of each and every one of us, whether young or old. But unfortunately, one of the obstacles that impede this election campaign is that most of the candidates are elderly.\" The parliamentary polls in Morocco will determine the future political direction of the kingdom. In the local and municipal elections in 2015, the PJD won in almost all major cities. About 15 million Moroccans are registered to elect the 395-member chamber of representatives, or the lower house of parliament.
