There's (Robert) De Niro. There's (Harvey) Keitel, Leo DiCaprio, Fran Leibowitz. I mean, I've got to hang on I guess.\"Scorsese explained that the organization's goals have always been something he's aspired to.\"Part of what the Friars represents in terms of entertainment is something that I always saw from the outside. In other words, I'm saying, you know, from the first I can remember it's always been standup, monologues, vaudeville routines, going back to Smith and Dale that I saw on television when I was a kid, so I've always admired that tradition and somehow it found its way into my life and particularly in the films I've made,\" Scorsese said.\"If you look at a lot of them, particularly films with De Niro, Keitel, and Joe Pesci, Jonah Hill, Leo (it's) monologues, shtick. The scene with my mother in 'Goodfellas' was improvised. It's pretty much coming out of the same tradition, I think. I'd like to think that. And now tonight, I'm told that, in a sense by being awarded this, it might very well be that. But for me, it was something I wanted to aspire to - to be able to work with an audience that way and to have the truth come out though comedy.\"Many of the guests and speakers at Wednesday's gala had worked with Scorsese at some point in his career. They included Robert De Niro, Olivia Wilde, Juliette Lewis and Sir Ben Kingsley.As far as the ribbing was concerned, Kingsley felt Scorsese could take whatever the speakers threw at him.\"I think a bit of roasting is going to go on, you know, because he can take it. He's a clever boy. Wonderful man to work with, we all love him to bits. There's going to be a lot of affection in the room tonight,\" Kingsley said.Kingsley also pointed out one of Scorsese's most endearing contributions to cinema.\"I think 'Raging Bull' is a masterpiece and I think where Scorsese really scores is that he's unafraid to put male vulnerability on the screen. It's a great gift,\" Kingsley said.Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson was last to arrive and summed the award to Scorsese with a few words.\"It's become a really prestigious award.
