It's another step towards breaking down barriers and stereotypes for young women in African countries. STORYLINE:A group of women arriving at Dakar University for a day of classes. Where in the past it was mostly a boys club, more women are enrolling in university and higher education courses. The Senegal government is actively encouraging females to take an interest in new technologies to break long held taboos about women and education.  The country's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications is providing learning opportunities for women, including coding clubs that provide practical solutions to local problems. Bitilokho N'diaye is an adviser on technology and gender at Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.\"People just have prejudices. She's passionate about computers, coding and digital applications and has carved a successful career in the tech world.  \"I wanted to know how it works and I decided to do IT. When we enter this industry, we realize that this is really exciting. Usually we say that it's difficult, complicated, and extraordinary and difficult. But in the end we realize that it is easy and it is not a story of gender.\"Maylis and three friends have created an application that will resolve the long running issue of land disputes in Senegal. It is called Sigestes and it involves uploading digitised title deeds from different local authorities. The app aims to thwart scammers who may be trying to sell land that does not really belong to them. Co-creator of Sigestes, Aida Mansour Lo explains how they came up wit the idea. \"Basically we were looking for a problem to which we could bring a solution. Because for us it is the essence of applications. For this we had found problems with respect to land management. The system was not computerized, many documents were lost, and even in the press, land disputes are often mentioned. The idea was to start from this observation. And we are working to improve the project.\"Maylis says many people can't believe that Sigestes was created by an all-female team. \"People are surprised and amazed at the same time; they say the girls did this and this drives them to talk to us. If it were boys, they would not be paying attention, they would say, they just developed an application. The fact that it is four women, not three girls and a boy, people say wow: we have to go see it. \"Women are under-represented in Senegal's IT sector and the government is working to bridge the skills gap. Each year the ministry runs a start-up weekend for 100 girls in the telecoms sector, where they pitch their ideas for information and communications technology projects\"We have always believed in the potential of girls and that hey needed a boost. The creators of Sigestes are attracting a lot of attention for their coding efforts and also for their fashion sense. \"It's not because we're scientists that we dress differently: people just have snapshots. Usually people ask me if I am really a scientist, because I have a different style, I look like a literary (person),\" says Aida Mansour Lo.Senegal is embracing the tech industry. A digital technology park of 25 hectares is currently being built in the new town of Diamniadio.
