It is also the former home of Brazil's first gold medallist of the Rio Games. Judo champion Rafaela Silva grew up in Cidade de Deus and said through tears after winning that if it wasn't for sport she may still be living in the favela.Leo Sagat knows all to well the importance sport plays in inspiring children to find a way out.He lived in the neighbourhood for 28 years before finally moving but he still comes back three days a week to teach boxing to 270 people, mostly kids, out of a donated room with no air-conditioning  in one of the safer parts of the favela..Sergio Leal, a local known as DJ TR, compared the feeling in his community towards the Olympics to the following line from a famous hip-hop song.\"See the little black kid watching it all from the outside.\"Rio de Janeiro - 22 July 20161.
