Waste has begun accumulating on the streets in the Metn district of east Beirut and the Mount Lebanon region days after the closure of the Borj Hammoud Dump.STORYLINE:It's a familiar sight in Lebanon. The rubbish situation that had seemingly calmed after reaching an unpopular zenith last year, is back.Rubbish is once again strewn across streets because access to a temporary landfill sight - Sukleen park - was blocked by the local municipality.They barred access to it until construction work begins again at the main landfill sight, where protesters are currently staging a sit-in. Phalange Party (part of March 14 Alliance) supporters have been protesting against the government's rubbish plan and the Borj Hammoud landfill at the project site for nearly two weeks, bringing work there to a halt. The locals say the dump creates health problems due to the municipal authorities neglecting to treat the waste correctly. Borj Hammoud is a largely Armenia area and the Armenian Tashnag Party supports the protest. Residents are fed-up and blame the lack of a solution on local government corruption.George Mattar, who lives in Borj Hammoud, says that the authorities \"do not know how to create a waste incinerator but corruption and deals are everywhere.\"A series of protests sprang up last year in response to the government's failure to find solutions to a waste crisis caused by the closure of the Beirut and Mount Lebanon region waste dump in Naameh (south of Beirut) in July 2015. The closure led the region's waste company Sukleen to suspend collection causing piles of rubbish to fill the streets. A series of small but increasing protests, led by grassroots organization \"You Stink!,\" were held throughout the summer, culminating in large protests in August. These attracted thousands of demonstrators but also saw scuffles with police.\"We were proposing a long-lost deal solution where the government bares the responsibility with the unions of the municipalities by sorting the wastes, treating it and taking it to a landfill. What has been done here is landfill the wastes without treating it and this will cause a bad smell and a dangerous atmosphere for the next fifteen years,\" says environmental activist Roger Abi Rashed.Sukleen is the waste contractor for the Greater Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas.Metn and Kesrouan produce 1,100 tonnes of waste daily, according to the
