Kusaka going over the rules of bowing in Karate at a workshopLEADIN:There's been an increasing number of Japanese students keen to learn Karate since the sport was accepted into the Olympics.Karate originated in Japan but has been famous around the world for many years. It is perhaps only fitting that its debut on the Olympic stage will be in Tokyo in 2020.STORYLINE:The next generation of potential Olympic champions. These female teenagers are learning Karate at Tokyo's Teikyo Junior and Senior High School. They're being instructed by head coach Ayumi Honda. \"I want all the students to love practicing Karate. So while the practice regime is very strict, I do try to keep it fun because I think it is very important for the students to enjoy what they are doing,\" she says.Honda says more students are now wanting to master Karate after it was finally accepted as an Olympic sport.\"Since Karate made it into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, there has been increase in the number of students who want to do karate, mainly from elementary school students who want to join our school,\" she says.Even though Karate originated in Japan, Honda says Japanese people still have a lot to learn. Though she expects this to change as interest grows even further.\"Many people still don't know the rules of Karate. I think change will come from now as more ordinary people begin to understand more about Karate.\"Many students in Honda's class are very ambitious and aim to be the country's best.Captain Yuki Kujyuro and Vice Captain Natsuki Usui both have Olympic ambitions. \"I'll be 20 or 21 when the Olympics happen in Japan, so yes I'd love to participate,\" says Kujyuro. Usi adds: \"Watching all the athletes competing in the Olympics just motivates me to want to be an Olympic athlete.\"One alumni of the Teikyo school is already spurring on others to become Olympians. The school is proudly displaying a banner supporting Yuki Uchiyama who participated in the Rio 2016 Olympics as a gymnast. It's been a long road to get Karate accepted as an Olympic sport. It failed three times in a row. The country was jubilant when it was announced Karate would make its debut in the 2020 games in Tokyo.The Japan Karate Federation was instrumental in campaigning for it to be accepted.\"Now that Karate has been accepted into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the public will want to see some gold medals. So while we're very happy about being in the Olympics, we feel immense pressure to deliver.
