Various of performance in bushLEADIN:A dance group in Australia's Northern Territory has created an interactive performance which takes the audience on a journey through the bush.The Darwin Tracks Dance Company tells the story of people on the move. STORYLINE: Workers collect luggage from a trolley. It looks like a scene from any airport, but this is the first scene of an interactive dance project. Like many people's journey to the city of Darwin, the performance begins at the baggage terminal.Arriving in the Northern Territory capital is a feeling like no other. The heat, the mosquitoes, the green ants - Darwin's distinctive charms can take a bit of getting used to.Near Darwin Airport sits the Marrara Swamp.It is not the typical venue for a dance performance but is playing host to an interactive performance by Darwin's Tracks Dance Company.'Landed' is set in the swamp areas and is being performed as part of the Darwin Festival.Artistic director of the show Tim Newth says the venue is all-important.\"We wanted to create a show in the bush.  You don't often see dance shows - they happen on nice sprung wooden floors and on stages.\"'Landed' tells a quintessential Darwin story. The three main characters have grown up in the 'Top End' (a colloquial term given to the state of Northern Territory) then leave and later return home again.Newth says the company likes to tell local stories.\"It's always important for us to tell Darwin stories and it's always important for us to have a cast that looks very similar to if you were walking through Casuarina Shopping Square (local shopping centre).\"Dancer Darren Edwards says the dance speaks to many people.\"A lot of people who come to this show can relate to, not just myself, but the other characters in it too.\"With the assistance of local school children, the characters and audience are taken in to the bush where they're made to feel at home.Choreographer and dancer Kelly Benneforti says she and her dance character share similar traits.\"She has a sense that she's not going to stay here permanently and I've had elements of that in my time.\"Edwards says life in the 'Top End' gets under people's skin.\"You can go away but I think if you're born and bred in Darwin you can't really take that out of anyone.\"\"Landed\" by the Tracks Dance company is part of the Darwin Festival.The festival runs from August 4-21, 2016.====Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: info@aparchive.com.
