Wide of castle on mountainLEADIN:One of Germany's most famous castles is celebrating an historic milestone.This year marks 165 years since work on the Hohenzollern Castle started, and next year will be 150 years since its completion.STORYLINE:It looks like it has come straight out of the pages of a fairytale.The Hohenzollern castle sits on top of a 234-metre high mountain, surrounded by dense forests near the Swabian Alps in southern Germany.The courtyard, towers and bridges spark memories of the folk-tale Cinderella - or perhaps Harry Potter's Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.It is one of Germany's most famous castles, depicted in countless paintings, photos and tourism brochures.Inside the castle visitors are treated to lavish rooms filled with paintings, sculptures and fine vases.It is what a castle is supposed to be, opulent, extravagant and romantic.The building of the castle started 165 years ago this year, and next year marks 150 years since it was completed.It is the third castle to be built on the site, the first one was built in the 11th century.The first two castles served as the seat of the two branches of the Hohenzollern dynasty - but the final castle was also built as a way to show the unity of the German people.\"This castle was built to show the unification of the German peoples after the revolution in 1848 - 1849,\" says Anja Hoppe, the current manager of the castle.\"It was never the home for the prince of Prussia or Prince of Hohenzollern. Today it is protected by German memorial protection.\"The Hohenzollern castle is owned by the two branches of the Hohenzollern dynasty: one Catholic Swabian line and one Prussian and Protestant line.The current Prince of Prussia - and the hereditary king of Germany had the monarchy not been abolished after the First World War -  owns a flat in the castle and lives there with his family occasionally.The castle was built by the then Crown Prince of Prussia, Frederick William IV.With its medieval courtyard and towers, the castle actually looks older than 150 years - a building style that was very popular in the 19th century.\"The castle is built in a neo-gothic style.
