The three day event saw some of the most renowned designers of Pakistan unveil their Spring/Summer 2016 bridal collection, while aspiring and upcoming designers were also given the opportunity to showcase their talent at the grand event.Of the eight designers showcasing their collections at the finale, it was reputed designer Amir Adnan who stole the show with his visionary Ceremony Collection. It struck the perfect balance between tradition and modernity.\"The fabrics that we used are very, very rich. It's mostly brocades and Jamawars. I've used very, very traditional fabrics but the cuts, the silhouettes; the colors are very cosmopolitan, very international. We have primarily showed jackets, trousers, vests and gowns. The work done on them is very, very traditional but the whole ambience and outlook is very modern and cosmopolitan,\" designer Amir Adnan said about his collection as well as his design philosophy and forward-looking outlook. Designer Sonya Batla was featured at the Bridal Couture Week for the first time despite being a household name in Pakistan's fashion world. A perfectionist renowned for intricate hand-worked embellishments and elegant silhouettes, her collection was a celebration of feminism and its delicate nuances. Her fusion collection also reflected her attention to detail as well as an understanding of local and international fashion trends.\"I've studied world cultures for the day a person is going to commit themselves to a relationship. And, interestingly enough, colors like purple emerged as favorites; light pink from the Eastern part of the world. Light pink was much favored even over white although a lot of them are Christian cultures. So it was very interesting to make this collection in terms of using the color palette but we tried to infuse a little bit of Pakistan and look at the world, so it's, you know, it's a perspective collection seen through my eyes and evolved,\" remarked Sonya Batla, after bringing the house down with her lavish collection executed in chiffon, silk, nets and jamawar fabric.NickieNina, the label of sisters Aliya Ali (Nickie) and Nabila Junaid (Nina), was another collection that was an amalgamation of traditional techniques such as zari work, Balochi taankas and resham work fused with modern methods like crystal work. For designer and fashion expert Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, this emphasis on fusion was reflective of a changing trend in Pakistan fashion in general and bridal fashion in particular.\"To be able to feed the rest of the world is important but to be able to feed the business of (fashion in) Pakistan is incredibly important, and these fashion weeks are very important in that. People now, in the last five to ten years, are finding their own voice of what works for them and what doesn't. What truly is Pakistani fashion? Steeped in culture, steeped in heritage is all very important but to be steeped in trend and having your finger on the pulse of what's happening in Pakistan today and to be able to dress the woman on how she wants to be dressed and where she wants to take fashion in the future, that's the most important thing, and only fashion weeks can do that,\" said Hassan Sheheryar Yasin.Designer Aisha Imran, a relative new comer, added verve and vibrancy to the proceedings with her festive color palette, while her East-inspired silhouettes representative of local culture and traditions.While the fashion week was an overall success, for fashion journalist Aamna Haider Isani, some of the bigger names of Pakistani fashion were conspicuous by their absence, without going into detail about internecine rivalries and divisions within the designer community, which, according to insiders, has adversely affected the growth of the industry. \"I wish that more renowned designers would show on this platform because the following (of bridal fashion) is so massive that we want to influence people in the right way. So there need to be bigger names, perhaps. It's getting better every year and hopefully it will get better and better. We like to see new innovations, silhouettes, new colors, and new designs in bridal fashion,\" remarked Aamna Haider Isani, as she shared her optimism for the industry despite her reservations. In its 12th edition, the Bridal Couture Week has indeed gone from strength to strength, and become the main platform for designers to unveil their bridal collections. It has also served as a launching pad for new and upcoming designers, getting them much needed traction and exposure.
